With 200 hours in the game, I've hardly made it into mid game at all. One thing I found really annoying was needing to train up, like in your example, a cook, without cooking, manually making them do it and deal with priorities or other methods, my dumbass completely overlooked the setting to set bills between certain skill levels. Pointing that out alone made me like and sub. Good guide overall.

How is stock piling paste an exploit. That was a really wild aside. If it didn't use resources yes it would be. But it is? Its using resources, energy and its a huge bulky machine that gives shitty food. Sounds fair af to me?

I stopped watching around the 27 mark and played an entire run until I died horribly like six times.

Probably should've finished the tutorial.

The whole Nutrient Paste Meal thing doesn't really feel like an exploit though? From a role-play perspective, it'd make perfect sense to let out some Nutrient Paste and store it for emergency purposes, as well as you also occasionally being able to buy them off traders in-game, even without mods...

I would not recommend this for beginners are there are far too many mods here. Your game's menus will not look anything like this.

A little random but saw your disclaimer and thought the small print was funny. I'm from the US and live here. Had a good friend I used to game online with like everyday. He was from and lived in Australia, really great dude. I found it super strange though that he along with other Aussies I knew were extremely against "smokeleaf"(if you catch my drift lol) but didn't find alcohol to be as much of an issue. I found this extremely strange. I don't partake in drinking or smoking anymore but don't have a problem with either, although from personal experience and from what I've seen, alcohol is much more detrimental imho.

I unfortunately get very overwhelmed by the prospect of planning everything out in advance and try to get a small shelter up first with freezer, a barracks and some production.
It ends up not being very pretty, but from that shelter, as I unlock more technologies I can prepare both technology and resources to realize what I will need for the playthrough and how to plan it out, making an entirely new base from that little outpost. Think barracks for workers as thry built a larger building.

But if you can plan everything out in advance, that is likely to be a better idea in general. Just wanted to mention what I do incase it helps someone else who gets stuck with decision paralysis.

Also. I don't know if chemfuel was a thing when you made the video. But insect meat is perfect for chemfuel production. Works as well as most other organic matter, and no one wants to eat it anyways and it doesn't sell for much. Same thing for if you come across human meat.

Dude... This SHOULD be the tutorial for Rimworld. The tutorial is not bad at teaching you how to get like 00.01% started lol, but your guides are detailed and completely easy to understand. I could see a Mod that enhances the tutorial with fleshed out details like this to really learn the game without being overwhelmed

I have a bunch of tips (barracks are actually OP, mostly don't need a freezer, lavish bug meals, etc), but the big one I use for base planning is using blocks that are 13x13 (including walls). It is big enough to be spacious but not too big that it requires columns to hold a roof. It will fit 2 research benches with a door in the middle on any side, or any other production or research bench with enough space for a melee block at a door. It also fits a full hydroponics setup (based on a single sunlamp). The only downside is that it doesn't quite encapsulate a whole orbital trade beacon... but they don't really take much in terms of resources... at worst you have 2. Not a bad compromise for having having a base where you can easily change where rooms are if you realize that your rooms/base layout needs to change.

How long did it take you to build this whole base? Just building a 10x10 marble floor takes days. Thanks again sir.

What are those things that look like display cases in your kitchen? The ones in the wall look like shelves but that doesn’t explain the ones next to the stove; looks like they’d make life a lot easier.

I actually don’t consider the nutrient paste exploit to be that bad as the nutrient paste does spoil very fast making me think it was a planned feature for you to be able to have it as an item if the devs hadn’t planned on you having access to it im sure they would have set it to spoil even faster as it lasts at least a day from what I remember

As someone who has a couple good friends who are AAA game developers, I can tell you with 100% assurity, and this is actually kind of hilarious I'm not just being The jerk to the developer, that the game and it's supposed "no such thing as failing, losing is just a tragedy" absolute BS nonsense that he says which is really just his excuse for not understanding how to balance his own game, is just that. The dev does not know how to make his game balanced or fair and got himself far too deep into ridiculous mechanics trying to make the game hyper realistic (which is just on its own an entire conversation of hilarity, he added in hyper realistic survival problems, and then made all of them completely and utterly whack and unrealistic. Pretty sure nobody starves in one day, and with these realistic villagers running around You're telling me I have to baby monitor them into eating food before they get themselves killed? Come on dude...) And it really just is a case of developer getting himself in over his head having no idea how to fix it shooting himself in the foot left right and center and then pretending out of pure narcissistic silly pride that that's just how the game is meant to be played. Come on Tynan I don't think anyone's dumb enough to believe that my dude.. but the prideful bastard has his name plastered all over the thing with some sort of weird creepy flex so it's really no shock that he is going to pretend like the troglodyte mechanics are secretly his true brilliance and that we're just not good enough to understand them. The game is fine I guess and I got the hang up it pretty darn quick having played lots of similar ones that are well... Actually fun and working versions of it basically... But it would be so much better in every single way if he would just admit he needs help, and quit with this hilarious charade. Again this isn't just my salty opinion, this is the direct and undeniable opinion of no less than three senior developers at AAA Game studios who enjoy the game with me who can clearly see the blaring and almost game running balance and code issues It is absolutely riddled with in their words

I personally find that most crops do not need to be kept in a freezer. This can shrink your 'kitchen' freezer to as little as a 2x3 space with some shelves with strict filters (thank you 1.4!), and you can make a butcher shop+freezer elsewhere for animal processing. Most crops are usually best kept in a cool storage barn, which will naturally freeze during winter and extend its life further during non-growing seasons. If, despite that, the food expires, you probably weren't going to use it anyway and are probably bloating your wealth value by overstocking. For the butcher shop, small animals can be processed immediately since their meat is more tile efficient, while larger carcasses can hang in the meatlocker and be butchered on an as-need basis since they produce more than 1 tile of meat. Freezer bloat not only is more power-hungry, but it can also bloat your wealth value or even cause issues if it chokes up on unused food and your meat goes to other zones to spoil.

Also, good planning tip: Big fookin potato field. it just simply works anywhere short of an ice sheet. nitpicking fertility zones and growing rice on a tile-by-tile basis will get you by, but not fill a pantry.

Hi @Salendrak, can you explain the pattern of your defensive walls please? I can't work out what's going on with them, you have something between the blocks I can't work out that allows the peons to shoot from behind, but isn't itself a wall block, what is it? Also, the long blocking walls to south and east of the main buildings. Thanks!
