Is the Cheapest Ryzen 5 Laptop any Good? - Acer Swift 3 Review (14", AMD Ryzen 5 4500U, 8GB 1080p)

I've heard removing the RAM cover there is one slot soldered, the other not? Can you do non parity RAM like the stock 4gb soldered one, and say a 16gb stick? I know not ideal, but more RAM would be huge.

I bought the same lap top (linux eshell is my operating system). I am no tech geek, so I hope you'll forgive my silly question: Once switching on the laptop, how do I get to the desktop? I'm using linux for the first time in my life and unlike Apple and Microsoft the desktop is the first thing one encounters upon switching on a laptop, which doesn't seem to be the case with linux. Something I did not anticipate prior to purchasing. Would you kindly let me know what to do? Please. I am desperate.

I found an acer swift 3 ryzen 5 4500u but in the specification of the laptop I found amd radeon graphics not a vega 6, is that mean that is not the same lap or what?

I just ordered the 8 core / 8 thread Ryzen version (Ryzen 7 4700U) with 16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM, with a 512 GB M.2 NVMe SSD, and a FHD IPS screen, 400 nits. It is available here in Sweden in an ASUS VivoBook S14 433M (and in a 15" version as well). This laptop is blazingly fast, the Ryzen 7 CPU with the 16 GB RAM is incredibly fast. And the 400 Nits screen is fantastic. The ASUS VivoBook S14 433M was on sale here this week and I gave 700 Euros for this machine instead of 1000 Euros.

I have a Ryzen 3 model and when it comes to the noise and heat, it unfortunately doesn't do as well as the Ryzen 5 model apparently does. I'm just running windows updates and at 50-60 degrees it gets really noisy.

which country are you in? the displays seem to be different in every country. here in the uk it's 280 nits. in america and canada, i think it's 440 nits. this is very frustrating.

This laptop is a beast and ultra-portable. It is so fast. display is not dim and have very good colors. The keyboard is clicky and responsive and light to the hand when typing. The trackpad is smooth and responsive. My complaint is only the speakers which has low volume and hard to hear. It can be managed with a headphone or external speaker. This is the best mid-range laptop. I upgraded Windows 10 to Windows 11 but found usability of Windows 11 hard so I am mostly using Ubuntu LInux version 20.04 with LXQT desktop environment of my dual boot setup with personal bash scripts.

I don't recommend, it's thermals are terrible. ThinkPads are the best laptops.

Bought one of this back in 9-9-2020 with a configuration of Ryzen 5 4500U, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Been using it since for travel, work, school and some light gaming since.

Pros:
- Sturdy built quality thanks for the aluminium frame
- Very light weight (1.2KG only) for 14 inch
- Low power consumption with a quick processor
- Fingerprint reader

Cons:
- Fan gets extremely loud and noisy
- Mine came with a SKHynix SSD instead of Samsung
- Lack of support from Acer
- Lack of USB ports
- Lack of card reader drive
