Morgoth isn't chaotic evil he is just pure evil. Evil became with him, he created evil. Sauron isn't near as evil as Morgoth. Trying to say Morgoth is chaotic evil and Sauron is Lawful evil is to dumb down what evil really is. Morgoth is the personifisation of Satan He was pure evil and evil originated with him. Sauron is just a dim relfection of his evil, and doesn't hold a candle to how evil he was. Sauron is an example of a National leader or a demon trying to be like Satan. He may be Evil but he is far from True evil.

Clearly, Morgoth is more evil. His power is comparable to Manwe, the strongest of the Valar, who is also his brother. Sauron is nothing compared to the Valar. Morgoth is basically the god of evil/chaos. he brought chaos to Arda/ Middle Earth. On a side note, Morgoth feared Varda the most, even above the strongest of his kin, Manwe. Being fairly young (25YO) I grew up with two older brothers that loved Lord Of The Ring but have never really tried to discover the lore behind the original movies until the show "Rings of Power" which opened so many questions. I do find it interesting how powerful Morgoth is but how much weaker his inability to predict and build a plan makes him. I would love for his lore to be studied even more!
