I Can't Stop Playing the Retroid Pocket Flip [Review]

I am mostly interested on emulating Sega Saturn games. Guardian Heroes, Magic Knight Rayearth, World Wide Soccer, Fifa 98, Assault Suit Leynos 2, and so other games from my youth, but I am not sure yet how well will this console do to emulate them. I'm very confused and still hope that a new console is released but all they have done are upgrades for RP3+ (metal), this and RP2S, so none of this give me trust to feel I would do ok with Saturn emulation. What do you think?

Also, how's the DPad for fighting games? 50% of my favorite games on all consoles are fighting games so if I will be having trouble to mark a Shoryuken properly then I won't buy it. I hope anybody could enlighten me with their experience using the DPad on RP3+ or Flip to play games like Street fighter 2.

What's the keyboard in the background?

I really hope they release a flip 2 that moves the speakers & dedicated buttons to the front, and removes the fan or makes it worth using. I'm not an engineer, but I doubt these adjustments would be too hard to make.

Is there a way to recalibrate the touch screen?
Finding my touch’s are far off where they are landing. Kind of annoying but curious if there is a way to fix. (Normally android has calibration settings but I wasn’t able to find it in the settings or online.)

Hi I’ve a question once I setup the micro sd I formatted it by accident, then I attached it to my pc to download the content again and it doesn’t even recognise the micro sd why is this is I because this is formatted to another device

For me, having the fan means the chipset will last much longer than the same setup without any kind of active cooling. May not give a performance boost, but I guarantee it affects the lifespan of the device.

Hi Russ, great video, as always! I've watched a lot of your first impressions and review videos of devices such as miyoo mini+, rg35xx, rg353p, rg353m, rg405m, rp3+ and this retroid pocket flip.

I bought the rg405m thinking it would be the ideal handheld for me, but the L1 was the Achilles heel on the rg405m for me. The L1 has given out on my rg405m, and i then found out many posts on reddit that many people face the shoulder trigger buttons issues with rg405m's inline buttons, that it is tactile, unlike the previous inline shoulder trigger buttons on the rg353m, which were much better.

I am thinking of replacing my rg405m with a retroid. I think the rp3+ is too long and not pocketable for me. But this dimensions of the retroid pocket flip seem to be "acceptable for my pockets".

But given my disappointing experience with the rg405m, and seeing some reddit posts about the hinge cracking, and M2 buttons not working after a while, and R2 having problems with the springs, I am kinda scared to make the purchase.

May I know what is your current feedback and feelings on the retroid pocket flip, now that you have had it for a longer time, and do you experience any of these issues or problems with the cracked hinge, non-functional M2, not working R2?

Boxes, in all the right ways; especially the idea of a ROM Library; with a clamshell,

D Pad & Face Buttons... this looks like a Retro Gaming dream

Gotta admit I didn’t see anything my modded New3DSXL couldn’t do, then you started streaming game pass to that thing and my mind was completely blown😅 holy shit that is cool. Kinda worth the price alone.

Can I play souls games on it ?

I thought about getting this for switch emulation until I used my brain for once and came to this conclusion: don't buy it for switch emulation because I already have a switch 😅.

I do like the DS form factor of this and it's preformance, but since I don't care THAT much about emulating the higher end consoles, I'm probably gonna go with the option that is the RG353V, since it can play Virtual Boy, PlayStation, DS, and Pico-8

i can’t too. Flip is by far better than RP3…. bigger D pad that does not conflict with sticks, slides seen more precise than default RP3 analogues, the screen in front of you and not between your hand gives a console feeling and it is much closer to look at a tv than at a phone…. it is the only one tha i love after 9 handled a by china in 4 years… and it is pocketable by itself. Better than a N product in many ways

I consider getting a retro handheld and the Flip is one of my favourite. One question: This one runs on Android, so is there a feature to play/map normal Android games with the Joysticks? One of my favourite modern games is Beach Buggy Racing 2 and it would be great to steer my car with real pad rather than on screen buttons.

Love the channel. I just picked up one of these for my daughter's first gaming device. For what it is worth, I would be interested in an overview how-to guide for the simpler interface you setup for your wife.

Hey, Russ. Love your channel and detailed reviews! I purchased this Retroid Pocket Flip in SEP, per your review. Sadly, it no longer boots up. I get the Retroid welcome screen, then it goes blank/turns off. Are you aware of anyone who can provide advice to get it working again?

The Rp3 plus doesn't feel like a phone with controllers. It's more like a PSP and smaller switch lite. An updated GBA in my eyes.

I actually kind of like the idea of watching Netflix and stuff on a clamshell. That seems like it would be a really natural and convenient extra use for a clamshell device.

It's been a year really

Hey Russ, I have only Miyoo Mini Plus, and I want to get something more comfortable for longer play sessions with joysticks. I can buy RP Flip second hand for 150 Euro or I could buy the new RP 4 Pro... I am actually leaning more towards the Flip now, I really like the pocketability and as you said, I like having screen above my controls, it also seems it plays all the Gamecube and PS2 games I really want to play... so I wonder if I should go for RP 4 Pro or maybe wait for RP5? But I dont want to loose that pocketability...
