Medical student not doctor here, but you can actually assess an ACL really easily with a few simple physical tests. Not a 100% sure thing, but you can make a differential determination

I love this video and how objective the information is. The only thing I would say as someone who has competed; there are times when corners are a bit scared of throwing in the towel. There are fighters that would rather take an arm break or a guillotine nap than tap. I think that type of bravado is respectable and stupid. If you cannot trust your corner you have nothing.

Some of these corners need to be fined, suspended, and/or completely barred from MMA. Especially the ones who can’t prioritize their fighters wellbeing over their wanting a bigger check.

I live here in Calgary, and yeah the athletic commission here operates on a heroic level of stupidity. I'm genuinely baffled that we are allowed to have any sporting events at all here.

Just ridiculous how lots of corner guys will push the fighter back out there even when the fighter is clearly seriously injured and/or saying they're hurt or done!? If the fighter says they're done they're done!? Corners r supposed to protect their fighters not put them back into a fight that they're badly losing and probably have no way of winning!?

matt serra is an absolute trash human and was a crap fighter.. kinda guy that would tap to someone running at them yet leave their fighter in there to take much unneeded damage.. be he for sure is not the only one guilty of not watching out for their fighters

In the scott morris fight i remember the towel actually being thrown in finally in about the same moment that pat stopped the beating himself and stood up, visible screaming towards either the referee or scotts corner.

My orthopaedic surgeon was able to diagnose a complete tear of my ACL, no X-rays, no mri , but by simply getting me to bend my leg at knee, he put his arm behind my tibia and just below the knee, gave a quick pull and could tell by travel of my lower leg , my acl was completely torn. He isn’t a woo eastern medicine doctor either, just very experienced orthopaedic surgeon. Most mechanics don’t have to take an engine apart to give a fair diagnosis with preliminary simple test. Obviously there are some exceptions

to be fair any good knee consultant can diagnose an ACL injury without an MRI (mine did) and the MRI merely confirmed it

I don't understand why it's always said the doctor couldn't know it was a tear especially when he got it correctly. If you tear your muscle it won't contract when you bend the leg.
