Common Mergansers

I saw what looked like a Male Common Merganser attacking a Female that could not come all the way up from underwater for air. It looked as if he was drowning her. Then I noticed the plastic, like a long shard of painter's plastic, wrapped around the bird and binding her. The Male was trying to free her, swimming underwater and pecking at the plastic. IHe succeeded and they came ashore. It was very dramatic. I filmed this while they preened and rested.
