Congratulations to Mr. Joe Segal!
This honor is well deserved!
I'm so happy that Joe and wayne segal kept Jazz Showcase open for us late bloomers to discover and enjoy!
My great-grandfather im so proud of you.
ОтветитьSegal is Chicago's greatest asset. Going down to the Windy City from Wisconsin became a weekly trek for some of us in the '70s when Joe was featuring from 2 to 4 "tough tenors" each week. These were major, seminal musicians, who were hard-pressed to find work during the fusion-frenzy that was the 1970s. I'd love to read an autobiography by Joe, giving us personal insights into the temperaments, habits, appetites, reliability, etc. of each legendary performer. The Jazz Showcase is the greatest, most long-lived jazz club in the world. It's only because it's moved locations so often that it's not given its due for going from the mid-Swing Era (1947) to the present day--70 years in a music that's little more than 90 (if you count Louis' "West End Blues" (1928) as its beginning as an art form).
Ответитьlovely... thanks for posting this
ОтветитьA jazz giant in Chicago and the world. Instrument or not.
ОтветитьI miss you Joe
ОтветитьThank you Joe (and now, Wayne). I’ve been going to the Showcase since the late 80s and it’s always been my favorite Jazz club.
