There’s some bike computer on those bezels.
ОтветитьDoes the climbs of a lift in Downhill mode count towards the ascent and total distance? I hope the lift part does count at all. This is a feature I want forever. What happens by syncing to Strava?
Ответитьgood video. still hoping their next Edge 550 and 850 has an emergency head light / flash light built into it akin to their premium watches.
ОтветитьWhat are your thoughts about using this vs. a Garmin watch (e.g. Fenix 8) to record rides?
ОтветитьDidn't know you were a shredder
Ответить"Buffet of Suffering." Need to copyright that.
ОтветитьI really appreciate how you review not only the mountain bike capability of the computer, but road ability as well. As someone who does both quite frequently this showed me a lot.
ОтветитьGreat content and quality. But as a high-calorie American, I'll just focus on losing another 9,000 grams in ballast.
ОтветитьI just like the mount
ОтветитьI wish you had said, "the most precise bike computer you can get." The 'precision' of 5Hz recording is a thing, but the receiver GPS 'accuracy' has not changed.
ОтветитьGarmin devices are exempt from tariffs under US trade code.
ОтветитьNo wifi is a blocker
ОтветитьSo it's a 540 with bigger plastic around it
ОтветитьI've been wanting a bike computer for my mtb for when I'm on trails I don't have memorized, glad I waited.
ОтветитьI like the form factor.
ОтветитьGreat review. So, 1050 has the hardware for 5 Hz data??
ОтветитьThis with a Solar would have been great for those all day gravel, xc & bikepacking rides. Will the downhill profile(sans the 5hz) come to other devices, like their watches, or do we still have to use one of the ski profiles when we are at a bike park.
ОтветитьReplaceable back tabs. Finally someone came up with that - having to do absurd hacks with third party products (if not having to get another bike computer) because the brand doesn't care to provide an actual solution for such sensible part is absolute bs.
Broke the back tab of my Wahoo Elemnt Roam 2 in a stupid crash in a pothole less than a month after buying it and could't fix or replace it.
I do hope this goes to be a standard for other brands.
That’s good to hear the 1050 will get the 5hz. I just bought one after accidentally leaving my 840 on my truck and driving off 😂.
ОтветитьI have had a copy of the skiing profile for downhill and it has the same problem: doesn't record my runs from the top.
ОтветитьRiding for many years on my mtb, road and gravel bike with the Garmin Edge 1030 plus. For me it was never an issue that it was not as rough and tough as this new Garmin device and I don't see any use for this device, for me at least. Riding a lot of xc (marathons) and I think this will not be as good as the 1030+ without the bigger display for navigation.
Ответить5Hz is nice but an update for the connect app is much more important.
Every Garmin watch can record with 1Hz but it's a shame that's not possible to watch it in 1s steps with the connect app or on a PC (at least for a tour longer than a hour). You get 4s steps or even longer!
My solution is to export the tour to Suunto and voila you can it in 1s steps.
That means I can't see with Garmin that my downhill course have curves.
With Suunto or Polar I can see every curve.
Daymn… i miss my Garmin edge 25
ОтветитьI know it’s not even close but it reminds me of the garmin edge 25 I used to have haha
Ответитьhow does it handle descents with small uphill sections? How much of an uphill triggers it?
ОтветитьWill the downhill profile make it to the watches?
ОтветитьWell, then it's still a pain to browse maps with no touchscreen. That's the only place where you need it, but after trying to navigate maps with buttons only anyone would hate this experience
ОтветитьThat looks really nice. Just not $400 nice. I was hoping for a direct replacement for the Edge 130 Plus.
Ответитьis the downhill profile coming to other edges (840) or Fenix 7? would be no problem. i always use the ski/Snowboard mode in the bikepark.
ОтветитьMtbers truly NEED a reason to look away from the trail when going down tech chunk and doing jumps, what a brilliant unsafe idea!
Got a great idea for a follow up, see in 6 months how many accidents were caused by those awesome device.
Leap Components makes top tube mounts for bike computers, and I gotta say that’s the way to go for me. A well thought out product.
ОтветитьNo wi-fi? In 2025? They can keep it!
Ответитьlol @ comment of the bezel, then proceeds to showcase other bike computers, including Wahoo, with even larger bezels 😆 It's a bike computer thing.
ОтветитьI was thinking it might be able to replace my 830 as my second computer to compliment my 1040. Interesting but not a touch screen so I’m out. I don’t mountain bike so don’t know why anyone would mount a computer on the top tube. I have a top tube pack there on my gravel bike.
ОтветитьWhat kind of mtb bike do you have?
ОтветитьGarmin: hey, let's not add functionality to existing hardware, let's roll out another device. Just like 5Hz refresh is something they couldn't add in other devices just with software. I dont buy this narrative.
ОтветитьWould you happen to know, if the Downhill and Enduro Sports profiles will come to the watches, like Fenix 7 or 8? 🙏
ОтветитьCould the bezels be any larger? Looks like a Palm Pilot from 2001.
ОтветитьThe device seems ok, but whole UI is just terrible
ОтветитьI've always wanted a Garmin but they are so expensive. I just got the Magene C606 and at that price point vs some of the features you get here. I'm happy with my purchase.
ОтветитьKinda Boeing 737 -Max :-) No thanks....
ОтветитьAnother money gimmick for soft bike geeks 😝. Seriously this device supersedes all their other devices now. This device handles MTB, Gravel and Road now. Why keep producing their other devices, this covers all the terrains. Like always the next upgrade for this device will be a bigger version 😆. Not criticizing your review, great video 👍🏼🍻. Just ridiculous how these tech toys keep superseding each generation now, every 2 years 🤣.
ОтветитьWhat does this do that a phone can't?
ОтветитьNo touch screen no buy
ОтветитьEdge 530 still going strong , holding out as long as I can 😂. Micro USB sucks compared to USBC but it's still holding a decent charge.
Ответитьcant wait do edge all day
ОтветитьI currently have the Garmin Edge 1040 Solar on my MTB. Is it worth the upgrade to go to the Edge MTB? Functionality wise I mean.
Ответить@Des, any sense if the to-be-released 550/850 would also have the hardware to provide the 5Hz record feature (wasn't sure if that "won't come to others" was limited to 30/*40 rather than 5**/8* future products)? Also, is the top-bar mount system compatible w/ the 1050?
ОтветитьThe strap looks to be a standard voile or gear strap used heavily in bike or ski touring.
ОтветитьStill such an unresponsive unit on the map. I do a lot of exploration, browsing the map is essential. They always claimed a smoother unit, yet on the 1030 it still looks like a computer from the 80s.
