Recently I, a 34-year-old, became friends with benefits with another 22-year-old sophomore. At the beginning, I felt so guilty and ashamed because I felt I was taking advantage of him. Definitely I got a reason to do this--physical needs after my painful 10-year relationship which ended in 2019. I'd say men date younger women because of:
1. Maturity levels between men and women are different
2. Most same age women tend to be stand-up to the man's way of reason/decisions/leading, more like they often challenge and submit less
3. While most women are attracted more to man's capabilities i.e. support (finances, emotional), masculinity (strength, dominion etc) and status, most men are attracted to women's youth, innocence, sense of beauty and most of all if it feels they can actually protect their female counterparts

Biblically, Adam had spent a good amount of time alone in the garden, long enough for God to notice how lonely he was, before Eve got introduced. That itself is proof that Eve was younger than Adam, they were not introduced at the same time (sequence). Nobody knows the exact time difference of existence between the two but with all the "a day is like a thousand to God & a thousand is like a day", he probably spent a few 'days' alone before Eve came in the picture.

Imo age matters in terms of maturity and what stages you are in life. For example I wouldn't want to be with someone whom is still living at home who perfectly okay with no desire of working. Also what stage of life that we going through. For example if the older half does not want kids or taking on a role of a step parent because of his or age. Which in any case is a deal breaker
