Charger manufacturers must not have some level of agreement on which charge voltage is correct.
Discovered the new charger I bought charges single cells to 4.34 before shutting off.
Sure, the battery operated longer than it did when new, but it's going to shorten the battery's lifetime dramatically.
Monitor all first charges with a new charger folks. lol
Especially if your battery budget is tight.

Note: Aside from the higher cell voltage, there were no signs of imminent danger. Battery remained room temperature during the entire charge cycle, no swelling of any sort of the battery.

Great Video, very informative. But what about the batteries for the mini quads like Eachine E010, FuriBee36, Tiny Whoop etc. I am a new flier and I really don't trust the little multi chargers you get from a no name company. I am looking for a QUALITY charger for the 1-2s batteries.

Is it safe to charge lower than the recommended C rating ? For example if a battery is 2200mah. The recommended charge rating would be 2.2amps. Will it damage the battery if I kept my charge rating at say 1.0 amps? I know the charge times will be longer . But will the pack last longer if I use lower charge rates?

I don't know who to call, so I'll ask you this question. I have PV2+ with 2 batteries. I've only charged them 4 times since owning them. They both charge up but one of them refuses to even lift the quad. I get an error. It shows 4 lights after charging, but only registers 1 light once in the drone. I want to buy another but it seems all I can find is after market batteries with not so good reviews. Is it safe to use an after market or should I keep trying to shop for OEM battery that won't break the bank?

I’m new to RC flying and lipo batteries. I bought a used Discovery Drone that came with a lipo 3.7 v battery and charger. I was trying to fly it and one rotor would turn on low speed and stop when I throttled up. After several attempts and 10 to 15 minutes, I pulled the battery out. It was swollen and warm. What little I’ve learned, swelling means bad battery. Reading on line, it was suggested to emerge the battery in very salty water for 24 hours, up to 48 hrs. to fully discharge it before tossing it in the trash. Is that your recommendation too? Is there a better safer means to fully discharge a lipo battery?

I have a JJRC H26w and want to upgrade the battery. but its not a popular drone so i'm having a problem finding a replacement. Its a 1200mah, 7.4v battery. I'm having a problem figuring out what would actually fit in here. the instructions do not tell me the max it can handle....but the dimensions are 65 x 31 x 15 mm(L x W x H) at 60g. Any ideas for a good replacement battery? I'm only getting about 5-6 minutes of flight time and want that to double if possible. I know this post is really old....but i sub'd a while ago for a reason, u are awesome and very involved with commenting back, so hopefully you can help a bit. thanks man!

Hey Justin,

Its me again. Thanks so much for this tutorial - it is really good. I have learned so much.until I checked all my lipo batteries and I am a bit confused as far as the charging part. I have the imax B6AC v2 to use. The following is the data I have accumulated. For each one could you tell me if it is fixable or toss it? If it is usable what amp should I use? ? These have been sitting around for about 6 weeks. :-( I did not know about the lows and highs for lipos yet - just started this spring. 50% is the magic number for storage right?

Batt 1- Turnigy 2s 850mah 7.4v down to 13%

Batt 2 - Hubsan 2s 2700mah 7.4v down to 15%

Batt 3 - Hobbytiger 2s 2700mah 7.4v down to .04%!!!

Batt 4 - Hobbytiger 2s 2700mah 7.4v up to 74%

(Batt 1 - cell 1 = 31%, cell 2 = 15% . Not sure how I would attack this since each cell is so far apart.)

Would appreciate if you have the time to help out - thanks. jim

Is it correct if you want to "kill" weak, puffed up, or worn-out batteries to place/sink them in a big bucket full of 50% salt and 50% water? Just sink them into there and leave them for a few days? I was told that in this way you not only kill it completely, you also minimize any potential risk of explosion and it's OK for the environment. Please, I need confirmation on that as I will be handling many large ones. Thanks.

I have several LIPO batteries that won't take a charge.  I stored them at about 33% for about 8 months while I was away.  They now won't even produce a reading on my voltage checker and the charger won't detect them.

To get the best out of any of your plugs that you soldering,it's always best to add on the opposite plug when soldering,so if your soldering a deans female plug onto your battery add the male plug to it so it will fit perfect when you want to use it,we do this because the plugs like to expand when hot and the opposite when cool,so when soldering your plugs always add to opposite plug on the other end for a perfect fitting plug every time.

I hope this make sense to you lol.

Thankyou for all this concise well presented information, much appreciated. Just one additional point, good practice is not to store batteries at full charge. It has been suggested elsewhere you store batteries at around 30% charge. Do you concur with this. Thanks again learnt a lot.
