I need to shoot some footage of some strings that we will tape to the wing of an aircraft to evaluate flow separation. One camera is to be mounted in the fuselage and the other onto a strut outside the fuselage. The distance from the each camera to the nearest string is about 7 feet and about 15 feet from the string furthest out on the wingspan. We thought we'd be able to use the gopro hero3 and hero4 that we have in house but even in narrow mode, the strings aren't visible enough and there is no way to zoom in on them. I put my Samsung S8 into the proposed mounting positions and it zooms in to capture all of the strings and provides perfect video. The only problem is that the mounting options for my s8 are limited vs for the gopro they sell tons of mounts. I agree with Kinotika that for some purposes, the gopro fisheye effect is undesirable. I don't see us springing for two OSMO cameras at this point and we might even buy a couple of used cheap cell phones and rig up some mounting.

mechanical moving parts are just begging for sand and dirt to clog up. i can see go pros lasting for 2-5 years and osmo will last max 1-2 years.

I wanted to know whether the Osmo gimbal can be locked at a specific angle? (I know that this is not the idea behind a gimbal).
But I'd like to use it while flying, attached (at a fixed angle) to my airplane's wing.

I’m thinking Osmo pocket. I’ve been wanting a motion camera but I’m not getting it for all the true action more just everyday and my boys baseball games.

Osmo is “more cinematic” but 24fps isn’t a default setting you can select? 🤔

I have a question. can i shoot underwater footage with Osmo Pocket? is it waterproof? like if i want to use in in rain, what will happen?

Lovely review... After seeing your examples,I am going with GoPro for two reasons:
1. Being a photographer, on my field trips, I also use it for photography
2. I do least of processing, on my footage. The direct output from GoPro is more pleasing than osmo pocket.

Please give your views on this....

Your footage is interesting. I had a Osmo Pocket and it was not as sharp of an image as yours looks. And the GoPro looks like it has a very soft blur look to it. Did you have it set for low sharp?

I see what you are saying with the wide angle vs narrow... but in selfie mode on the Osmo Pocket, it annoys me that it has to be so tight... I guess they have an add on fish eye lens for that.
