It's typically used to describe something as "meaninglessly complex," i.e. a maze. Ever watch CUBE from 1997? That whole big structure is a great example of something that is "Kafkaesque."

I had a dream once about a flooded complex of rooms that were all of random sizes and dimensions, and so were the openings between these rooms. There was a bunch of playground equipment, but only the support structures. No seesaw or anything, just poles and netted walls. I’m convinced that I went to Level 3 in my dreams, but it was years before I heard about anything to do with the back rooms.
