Very nice, I like the shutdown script great idea for instant on after a quick stop. How long does the unit take to boot up on first drive of the day?

I really like what you've done! Your shutdown delay is a fantastic idea. You got me thinking when your car is off for an extended period maybe you could have the raspberry Pi start the boot up process the moment you unlock your doors by remote just to speed it up

So I need an external amp to connect the pi to my cars speakers, right? Also, would there be anything that wouldn't work if I bought a cheaper display than the official 7" touch screen?

Is there anyways to make it fast boot from a sleep state? So when we start the car it resumes music or nav in like under 5 sec? Not familiar with the pi. How long does yours takes to boot back up after the full 1h shutdown?

great setup. I dig it a lot.... Could the Pi be set up with multiple cameras? I was thinking I could set up a decent dashcam system with it...

Great job on the videos, I have been wanting to setup Android / OpenAuto on my Toyota for a while and I've been following you. Now that you have most of it working I think that I'll set it up too. I do have questions, like, are you using a external GPS or does the navigation use the one on your phone? Also where did you find the schematic for your car. Also I have Sirius xm in my Toyota and I really like it, do you know if it is possible in OpenAuto?
Thanks for the great information,

I'm having issues with the shutdown script. How do you have the relay wiring set up to trigger the gpio shutdown command? Is the defined pin GPIO 23 or Pin 23 (GPIO 11)? The initial state is set to high so would it need to be GPIO to ground and when the relay disconnects from ground it sees LOW and starts shutdown?

Nice description of what you are doing. A minor point that might help your viewers is the & in the rc.local file starts the script in the background and then moves on to the next command. Otherwise the rc.local file would not end until all the python scripts ran and then exited one at a time.

Nice videos, I'm looking to do something similar. Quick question: What wires do you use from the wiring harness, and what were they hooked up to? Maybe I missed it in one of the videos, but I don't remember a part that showed all of the connections, and how your Pi recognizes you're in reverse to turn on the backup camera.

Thank you in advance. Any help is greatly appreciated.

So just purchased OpenAuto and so far not impressed with it at all. CrankShaft worked way better out of the box for me so far and I feel like I wasted my money. I will be posting a video of it soon. If anyone has any answers as to why when I have AndroidAuto open on my phone and Open auto up and running that is does not show the proper interface would be a huge help.

Hey, man. Great video and project! I currently have a Nexus 7 installed in my car and am wanting to replace it with a Raspberry Pi and screen. I have a quick question about your shutdown script and relay. You said the relay is connected directly to the battery and you're not using the ignition line. How does the relay know when you shut the car off if it isn't reading a high/low from somewhere and it is just always high being connected to the battery?

I am probably just not understanding what you explained in the video correctly.

Keep up the good work, I´m in argentina looking at your content and it is amazing.
