This mod is quite in depth – I wanted to completely change the way you play the game while using this character. And what better way to do that than by… removing the hunger meter? Wh- hold on just one second. This game is called Don’t Starve – you can’t just do that! Hunger is an important aspect of the game as it forces players to make rushed decisions and potentially put them in danger and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah! [sentence speeds up] Yeah yeah yeah, whatever. If you’ve played this game for more than 2 hours you’re probably never actually gonna die of hunger. And besides, the ~replacement meter~ serves the same fundamental purpose that hunger does – effectively turning the character into a ticking timebomb and forcing the player to like, do stuff.
I’m not going to go over every single ability one by one, but there a couple of things that I wanted to keep in mind when making them. First and foremost – no abilities for the sake of abilities. This is a problem that a couple characters in the base game – Wickerbottom and WX78 – seem to suffer from. If a player of my mod uses a tape, thinks to themself ‘oh, cool,’ and then never uses it again? Well, I view that as a failure. Every ability should be useable, fun, and good in some way or another. Obviously, some tapes are a lot more niche than others, often intentionally – but, simply put, an aim of mine is to give every ability some kind of at least semi-unique role that it fulfils.
