Maybe “Jen” can become a culturally descriptive nickname for someone who is opposite of a “Karen”
Ответитьer, however you cut it, jesus is a dictator, he killed everyone on the planet cos they didn't do as they are told - you don't worship that guy, you organise a rebellion. people doing nice things is nice, but people doing nice things in jesus name don't understand who jesus really is. the ultimate dictator who invented deporting people (to hell if you didn't work that out). i see no difference between trump and jesus, the only thing they would disagree on is who gets to sit on the golden toilet in that jet.
ОтветитьJen's last reply made me tear up.
The fact that good believers exist is why I try to be as understanding as possible about where any believer is coming from... But it gets real hard when I remember all the messages about being broken and worthless.
Les Miserables is one of my favorite novels from High school literature. It really illustrates well the tension of the Christian religion in the persons of Javert and Jean Valjean. To this day I find my ideal for how a Christian should act following the best possible interpretation of The Bible is the bishop of M Sur M. With Trump attending a production of the play recently I saw a lot comparing him to Javert, but I'd solidly place him with Thenardier.
ОтветитьWhat is all this about trump and the sin of empathy? Viced Rhino also started making anti trump videos on his channel recently.
I guess I'm sitting this one out
After listening to what Jen read and what she said, why would anyone be concerned that she would not properly take care of them? Of course a MAGA Republican would be concerned, because if the tables were turned, a patient should be concerned because it seems the first thing any MAGA person will do is to judge whether the patient is actually worthy of help. If the patient is not Christian, worry. If the patient is Christian, but not the right type of Christian, worry.
I really don't care what anyone believes, as long as they don't try to cram their beliefs down my throat, or as long as they don't try to infringe on my rights, because I don't believe what they do. From what she said, Jen is the kind of Christian that I would gladly have as a friend. I have several Christian friends. I would not try to change their beliefs, nor would they be able to change mine. But what they believe does not matter so much as how they behave. Are they kind, compassionate, and honest? That is all I care about
As far as "leftist cancel culture" is concerned, I choose to interact, socialize, and do business with people who reflect my values. I will not do business with a racist, a Nazi, a liar, a thief, etc. because they do not care about what happens to those they hurt. If your behavior causes people to stop doing business, or socializing with you, then that is the consequence of your behavior. It is not "cancel culture". "Cancel culture" works both ways, there are a lot of Christians who will not do business or socialize with people who are not Christian, or who from their point of view, do not reflect their values. There are people of other religions who do the same thing.
If you are religious, and you, to the best of your ability, follow even just what Jen read, you are the kind of person I want to know, even though I am not religious. A final aside. I find the term "woke" to be confusing. As far as I can determine, woke means someone who is concerned, not just with themselves, their families and friends, but who are concerned about the welfare of people they don't even know. People who live in their community, their state, their country, the world. I find that wanting to prevent starvation and disease, regardless of who is afflicted, seems to be something too many people think is a bad thing, a quality they actually hate. So much for our "Christian Nation". We are no different from the Muslim Theocracies, or any society that is ruled by their religion. It also explains why a lot of MAGA people think Jesus is woke. Go figure.
I will be on a bit later today to reply to comments
that msg is over 9 hours old now. doesn't it strike your curiosity?
As an atheist I have noticed, the minority of Christians are trying to follow the path Jesus laid and the others treat Jesus more like Oprah. Where are the free gifts for being a huge fan?...
ОтветитьConservative-leaning GenX atheist here.
1. If Jesus were here today, he may not be MAGA, but he wouldn't be liberal, either. Liberals want the return of slavery, segregation and discrimination. While there was slavery in the christian book of fairy tales, supposedly christians are against it......still trying to figure that one out. Oh, and he'd probably also say, "Y'all should've just let me be. I'm not anyone special, let alone a frickin' savior."
2. A person doesn't need a religion or "god" to be a good person. Just be a decent human being and don't be a dick.
3. In my experience, christians are some of THE biggest hypocrites when it comes to helping their "fellow man". If it's through the church or for a fellow churchgoer, they're on that! But if someone isn't a churchgoer (or not at the particular christian's church), or someone who needs help actually asks, they're nowhere to be found.
3. I don't vote because I have no faith (no pun intended) in a system that is a major joke. However, I feel that the job Trump is doing and has done is what this country needs. No more illegals taking our jobs and benefits, no more "safe spaces" for the confused and coddled, and no more "racism" (new meaning, not Webster's meaning....or Oxford's) bent to the will of the "entitled".
4. I have my own reasons for believing that abortion should be legal instead of an "all-out ban", as liberals believe is happening. Another game for another day.
5. Any politician who is truly concerned with this country's people affording basic necessities (food, clothing, shoes, housing, transportation) is okay in my book.
6. Those who think that Trump is trying to be king, stop. We are not the UK (and we know the monarchy there is just for show), and we are all adults. Go to the library, borrow some history books, read them, then return them and get some more. Wash, rinse, repeat.
7. ETHICS does NOT mean JESUS. Ethics are like not being a dick to people. Politics should NEVER be mixed with business/employment. That's a snow pebble just waiting to become an epic avalanche and unnecessarily stressful for all by creating a hostile work environment. Just like your pay grade and who you voted for, don't discuss it.....EVER! No one cares, really, who you agree with or not.
8. Please strive to know history better. What you learned in school doesn't even scratch the surface, and much of it isn't true.
Have a good day, and if you're having a bad day, I hope it gets better. Keep moving forward!
Gavin Newsom is The King here in California AN ILLEGITAMATE ONE
ОтветитьIt makes me so sad to see all the trump haters. I am not a Christian or a believer so I do not agree with any religion and politics mixing. I just do not get why you do not support our president. I believe his messages have been distorted by the media.
ОтветитьWhat the maga community doesn't realize is how socialist the tastings of Jesus are.
ОтветитьI tried for so many years to be the good kind of Christian. I saw all the judgement in the Christian community and wanted to prove it didn’t have to be that way. But when I finally realized none of it was true, I was so much freer to just use empathy and critical thinking to try to be a good person instead of trying to fit it into the Christian framework, which as you point out, has some really harmful things in it too.
ОтветитьPlease tell me how is trump destroying our constitution?
ОтветитьFact 1: The Democrats deported more illegal immigrants than Republicans. Barack Obama deported over 3 million illegal immigrants, far more than any other President in U.S.. history.
Fact 2: The majority of the people Obama deported were people of color from Mexico and South America.
Fact 3: Not a single Democratic Governor, Senator, mayor or activist riot or protest when the Democrats used ICE agents to deport illegal immigrants.
Fact 4: Every illegal immigrant is a criminal.
Fact 5: When protesters turn to violence, vandalism and looting they are no longer protesters they are rioters.
Fact 6: Trump is trying to deal with a mess that Joe Biden intentionally created by letting in 10 million illegal immigrants with his open border policies.
Fact 7: The Democrats sanctuary cities used millions of tax payers dollars to provide for illegal immigrants.
"If you come into this country illegally you will be deported."
- Barack Obama
Except that Christian Fascism and MAGA are 100% consistent with the Bible and Yahweh/Jesus. Trump/MAGA are obeying Yahwehs commands. The whole religion is pro demagogue with a slave mentality. The Christian Fascist movement are the biggest support base of Trump/MAGA and have now taken over America at all levels.
ОтветитьIt's such Nonsense that this division and classification of people based on their beliefs automatically puts them in a political class.
Not all people that identify as Christians are Maga or Trump supporters. Not all atheists or agnostics are anti-Trump or anti-maga.
Their are people who hold their own beliefs or non beliefs in religion and are on different sides of the political spectrum.
Some atheists and some agnostics support making America great and love their country. Just because Trump uses that slogan doesn't mean they fully support or fully suffer from TDS.
Same thing for Christians, Catholics, Hindu, Judaism, and any other version of religion or religious belief doctrines.
Indoctrination can take place in anybody who is exposed to continuous rhetoric and willingly or unknowingly have become part of that lifestyle, crowd or belief system.
Think for yourself and stand for whatever you want. Just as long as your beliefs are not physically hurting, harming others or infringing on your rights or your own personal beliefs. Also, don't worry about hurting peoples feelings, it's a guarantee that No matter what you say, do or believe, someone's going to take offense to it and label you!
Don't physically hurt or harm children, endorse control or slavery over others and you can do whatever Sick Twisted or socially acceptable thing you want to do as long as it includes two consenting adults.
No one cares. Perhaps you agree America should deal with illegal immigration and it should be treated with proper consequences. Maybe you one of these people don't, and thinks there's no such thing as borders or proper legal immigration process. perhaps you should try to go to any of the other couple hundred countries in the world, just show up and demand to be recognized with citizenship since your now there in that country you don't need any visa, passport, or immigration process. Go ahead give that a try, see how that works out for you.
I know Jen means well, but it seems like she believes in HELL! Regardless of how she wants to help people regardless of who they are, her Christian views are HARMFUL!
ОтветитьI love how often you try to steelman those you're responding to. Good character growth.
ОтветитьI agree with you 100%. She seems like a fine woman of great character. Glad you stand with her.
ОтветитьYou might check out Adrian Daub's book Cancel Culture Panic, I think you'd find it really interesting. I have in the past really been curious what you would think about some of the episodes of his and Moira Donegan's podcast, In Bed with the Right.
ОтветитьWhen talking about the bible - my favourite phrase came from a retired pastor. He referred to biblical literalism and inerrancy as “adventures in missing the point”
The bible is a collection of writings from hundreds of people, written over approx a thousand years with one common theme - their understanding of God — that’s all. It’s an anthology of human words, collected by humans, edited by humans, and translated by humans.
Jen really seems like a someone trying to be a good Christian (or just a good person) to me and I appreciate Brandon`s ability to respect Christian beliefs even when he obviously (and many atheists like myself) doesn`t agree with them. And after all at the end of the day it should be about who really cares and wants to do good in this world and not about what we believe.
ОтветитьI think there is a bit of dishonesty in her response to "we're exhausted from liberal nonsense." Her response didn't address the subject of the comment but rather what Trump is/has done. I get that she's pointing out that MAGA and Jesus don't mix and I agree with her, but she did very little to speak to the comment. This type of redirection happens so frequently in today's conversations, especially in regards to politics. To me it comes across as a tacit agreement and an unwillingness to fix it. Like, ok, you agree liberal nonsense is exhausting and repelling potential voters in droves, but you'd rather point out that the other guy is a big meany instead of addressing the critique. One of those routes is going to net you voters, the other will only push them away.
Her last response was just... absolutely beautiful. chefs kiss
Conservative Christians support Trump,
not because this Businessman`s a Christian,
But because Christianity`s a Business
Never trust a god who doesn't lead by example
ОтветитьSeems that with humans, everyone, everything is corrupt, corruptible... even the image of God, where his utopian dream is turned into a dystopian nightmare at the hands of his creation. It`s what we must deal with. If we were created by a god in his image this is what we will always be; if by evolution, then change is measured in hundreds of thousands of years or even millions. Even working together for the betterment of all, some are purposefully held back or excluded. The more I learn about humans from reading their faceless nameless comments, the bleaker it all appears.
Why are Christians confused by the messages in god`s word?
In 1 Corinthians 14:33 (KJV), it is said "For God is not the author of confusion..."
Well, if god is not the author of confusion, then it stands to reason that God is not the author of the Bible. Confusion seems to have been a major contributing author, along with lost, unsure, unclear, perplexed, disoriented, bewildered, and uneducated.
The CREED of CHRISTIANITY:
SEE no evidence...
HEAR no contradictions ...
SPEAK no facts...
INDOCTRINATE the Children!
COLLECT the TITHES!
MAGA is a cult.
ОтветитьMAGA while listening to Jen's response "I'm gonna receive the same care as gays and immigrants? Ugh!" They will not be satisfied until other people suffer.
ОтветитьJen is the type of Christian I was and eventually the illusion just cracked. I couldn’t explain away the parts that were violent, hateful, or simply contradictory.
ОтветитьBrandon, I think you need to understand that the world is a chaotic fucked up place. We don't have ideals of "utopia" or "massive harmony existence." I don't like inequality, but just like theists, we atheist's should never try to give all these "hippie jesus" messages that do not exist. She is no better than her fellow "cultist maggots" except for "acting" like she has empathy. As someone who "actually" is a seriously empathetic human, I find her talk about her religion to be dishonest. She talks about what she "thinks" the religion is, but we all know the religion is horrible, abusive, soul-busting/destroying, sexist, hateful and awful! Nice words do not fix her beliefs and reading nonsense from "scripture" for videos is just nonsense masquerading as truth and/or philosophical thought.......................but not truthful.
ОтветитьFunny thing, those verses from Matthew 25 sound like "Jesus" is advocating for hospitality. Though, that can't be right. Hospitality is something that's a common theme in pagan cultures and religions, including Krishna telling Arjuna during the Kurukshetra War (Bhagavad Gita telling this) that hospitality is the most auspicious act one can perform, and 'we all know that everything taught outside my personal choice of Christian denomination is all Satan's lies and worshiping Satan!'
Pretty sure it was a fairly recent video that Dan McClellan was talking about the whole thing with Christians claiming "Jesus" said he was "God" and covering Psalm 82:6, which was referenced later in John 10:34. Pair that with Matthew 25. You're all gods, what action or inaction you take towards each other so you also do unto "Jesus." There's something being said here these believers aren't getting. (And then the seeing inaction in action and action in inaction being suggested in Matthew 25 is yet another parallel to be made with Krishna's teachings to Arjuna in Gita to further show where "Jesus'" teachings are influenced from.)
If Jen is all about
'Love your neighbor as yourself,'
how could anyone think she would do them harm as a nurse?
I don't get it.
💚💚💚
Thank you for speaking about this
ОтветитьIt’s draining listening to them. Those people have dangerous black and white thinking tendencies…
ОтветитьI am an Aussie. We are considered friendly, helpful, laid back and our country is a safe place to travel (most Aussies never have issues with snakes, spiders, crocodiles, and sharks). We are also a secular country. Our politicians do not pray to god to win elections. Most Aussies go to church 3 times in their life on their own account. Baptism, Wedding, and Funeral. About 75% of our funerals do not take place in a church.
So the US belief that only via Jesus can people be good, kind or helpful is a load of BS. Jen is a nice person and would be a nice person if she wasn't a Christian. The people heaping crap on her and on you are doing that because they are crap people who use Christianity as a cover.
Lol if Jesus existed he probably wouldn't vote 😂
ОтветитьMatthew 25 is nothing like modern liberalism. The modern liberal is compassionate with other people's money. Not impressive at all.
ОтветитьI wont support any Christian gaslighting.
ОтветитьI wasn't allowed to have political opinions as a JW. Yesterday I attended my local No Kings protest, my first political event. It was awesome.
ОтветитьWell, it's the truth: I mean, damn.
ОтветитьThis is the problem with the modern Christian. They want all the social benefits of being a Christian without the burden of actually having to live their life like one.
ОтветитьI like her 'interpretation', I just don't understand how she can ignore the bad verses. I guess cognitive dissonance eventually has to come to a conclusion and what it settles on is based on other aspects of one's life.
ОтветитьHappy Sunday, all.
I will be on a bit later today to reply to comments, but i have already seen a lot of people upset that this is “political” Please just watch the video before making those comments. This is completely in line with all my other content. No i don’t think all conservatives are bad. No not all people who vote for trump are maga. No the left isnt perfect. So many comments putting words in my mouth when i tried to be incredibly precise and nuanced if you watch the video.
