JOTUNHEIMEN 8K

Photographed on three different trips in 2017-2021, this short film takes you to the highest and wildest of the norwegian mountains, concentrated around Jotunheimen National Park.
Roughly 280 of Norway's 300 peaks above 2000 meters can be found in this area.

Most of the footage is from the area around Leirvassbu, where two summits were conquered in two days, with a heavy backpack full of camera equipment. I came to Leirvassbu early in the afternoon and walked a couple of kilometers to find a nice place for my tent, then went directly to the peak Kyrkja (2032 m) in the evening. This is a steep, but popular peak in the heart of Jotunheimen, with a staggering view in all directions. The peak is also known from norwegian horror movie series "Fritt Vilt".

I was lucky to enjoy the sunset at the top of the mountain, in total silence, and had the mountain all by myself. Photographing in late summer means it gets a bit dark in the night, so I had to hurry down after sunset to find my tent and enjoy a good dinner from Real Turmat :-) Left my cameras photographing close to my tent at night, and got to see the sunrise early in the morning.

Next day I went for the peak Tverrbytthornet (2102 m). This is a less visited peak, and I hiked all day without seeing other people at the mountain. Beautiful view towards the slightly smaller Kyrkja peak. Getting down from the mountain was a bit too exciting for me, as the way down is pretty steep with lots of loose rocks. It was nice getting back to my tent, and in the evening I enjoyed a bath beneath a small waterfall. Water temperature was iiiice cold, but very refreshing!
