I’ve been counter wrapping the primary material (pheasant tail, herl, etc) and then wrapping the wire. Seems to get a better/firmer anchor on the wire. Even better that the “use the the wire to change the thread direction and then change it back” technique.

Working pretty well for me. Any thoughts? downside to the counter-wrapped material that I am missing?

Love your fly tying videos and have always learned a lot……. however in this case I feel you’re using too much of the fibers to secure to the base and not getting as nice a body.
