To some extent zizek is an ideological pervert himself.
ОтветитьI love Zizek’s reflections… When he talks about commodities and agalma, I think his reasoning may be too linear. It is a two-way street - you can aim for a higher goal (inner treasure) and enjoy the outer layer (say: activity) in the process; but you could also simply enjoy the outer layer and discover the inner pleasure. I think some people will do one, others will do the other. It does not invalidate the experience I think.

ОтветитьWhy “pervert”?
Ответитьexcellent
ОтветитьThe ending killed me😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
ОтветитьI just realised, that the movie was produced by Sophie Finnes, the sister of Ralph Finnes.
ОтветитьThe way this guy immerses himself into all the sets of these movies is priceless... the clockwork orange one got me lol
ОтветитьI saved this video in my long term data archive. I'm convinced that in a few years, this video will be heavily censored or outright banned and Slavoj Žižek interdicted on every platform or to have any public speech. The same with all the movies he mentioned here, like so many other. Soon, the world will experiment a new book burning ceremony and much will be lost. And I feel like is my duty to save as much as I can.
ОтветитьYou don't have to be a fucking pervert to see ideology.
ОтветитьGood
ОтветитьThis movie is to be considered property of the people and state and therefore free to be consumed by anyone.
ОтветитьMe watching Taxi Driver aged 20: This is terrible, how can someone be like this? Me watching Taxi Driver aged 60: G'waaan, get 'em
ОтветитьExcellent food for thought, super fun watch
Ответитьexcellent film and I recommend a brilliant film by director and philosopher Karel Vachek

I get the impression that "ideology" refers to anything that exists as mental processes perceived as notionally real. Is that accurate?
ОтветитьThis warm coke is shit
Ответитьescape "the frozen grimace of excessive pleasure"
ОтветитьI love the image is everything joke with the black outs and it’s still rated mature, sweet catholic joke from Aquinas. Image is primary survival at day, sound is primary at night.
ОтветитьLife is built on wishes.
Can't give up, and can't let the mistakes jeopardize the dreams.
the problem with people like zizek is that they try to criticize the status quo while using the framework of what the status quo gives them: for example "stalinism" is not a thing, it was made by red scare propagandists to demonize the soviet union
ОтветитьI use to agree with his assessment. But Ramstein music and fashion has clearly been adopted by actual fascist movements. It's not subverting it anymore. Fascism owns it now.
ОтветитьŽižek is glib, not eloquent. He doesn't define his terms. He simply makes passing references to other authorities -- Marx, Adorno, Benjamin, Lacan -- instead of clearly explaining the argument he's laying out as he goes. Like most if not all modern philosophers, he doesn't understand that the literary (of which cinema is a subset) is not like discourse -- it can't be mined for plausive "ideology". Ideology may be present -- in the same way the ghost in Hamlet is present -- but it is not necessarily affirmed, and odds are it is undermined by other pervasive and superseding human concerns, such as love. (Žižek, not surprisingly, gets this completely backwards in his readings of both Titanic and The Fall of Berlin.)
It's not that he's unintelligent. He's simply not disciplined, and his appreciation of a distinctive non-ideological literary reference is virtually non-existent. A true "critique" of the sort Žižek claims to be making here would turn the conventional wisdom on its head to show that literary meaning is not derived from ideology, but that ideology is derived from the literary -- and then we'd have something truly radical to work with. If ideology needs to be deconstructed, it is only to reveal that its sources are ultimately literary, and the primary concerns that literature in turn reveals are universally shared human concerns -- making a living, make love, and struggling to stay free and alive. Ideology is merely the secondary derivation of how we attempt to do these things, it is not the thing itself.
Incredible. Watching it for the 10th time
ОтветитьThis is fantastic y'all, you orta watch ALL of it twice.
ОтветитьI love this guy!❤
ОтветитьI am 70 years old. Is it possible to see the uncensored version somewhere?
ОтветитьAm I just stupid? Or does this sound like a whole lot of nothing? What is it that this guy’s trying to get at!? Sounds like a whole lot of ‘post-modernism’ horseshit
ОтветитьGod is something that visits our planet once in approximately 225 million years. If our progress pleases Him, we get to live. We must become better. We have time though. A lot.
Ответитьthere are parts that have only sound and subtitles and a black screen, why is that?
ОтветитьDoes anyone else see big blacked-out gaps during some of the clips from other movies?
ОтветитьThe answer to the question why 'Ode to joy' is used by so many different political parties and positions is the following, quote: 'Music is, by its very nature, essentially powerless to express anything at all' (Chapter 35) - Stravinsky in Context.
ОтветитьI only watch videos for the blacked out parts. That's what I'm here for. Now if we could make it totally silent then we would really achieve potency
ОтветитьI love the warning about graphic or violent content before watching the video, very appropriate for zizek in many ways
ОтветитьOMG I really wanted to listen to this video but the horrible rough accent is giving me a migraine! This should be narrated by Mr Attenborough or Freeman or someone with a soothing voice. Jesus Christ!
ОтветитьOut of all the vids on yt, its hilarious this one is deemed potentially harmful. Why ?
Ответитьthank you “philosophize this”podcast ❤
ОтветитьI love how Zizek decided to stay lying in the Taxi Driver bed long after he moved on to other films
ОтветитьGets it.
