For those of us that follow football/soccer. Antonius was a great assistant coach but a terrible head coach
ОтветитьPortraying someone by using words like "supposedly" is not history, is just gossip and defamation. The only thing demolished here is the historian credibility. Watch out, there will be a lot of campaigns against dictator's opponents, due to actual world politics and agenda. Vivat Marcus Antonius! MA REX forever.
Ответить“Has no real military experience….”
Spends ten minutes talking about all the military campaigns he was on.
But in all seriousness, I’ve never heard anyone call Antony a military genius anyways.
Mr. Goldworthy, i love your books!
ОтветитьBut there is a dramatic contrast - one is a political genius, the other is a political moron.
ОтветитьThis man is so fucking lame. This loser is gonna call out Mark Anthony?
ОтветитьSeems to me that he was better in a serving role than being in supreme command.
ОтветитьAntonius helped carry the day at Alesia.
ОтветитьI’m sure you will be remembered in history like he is.
ОтветитьSays the guy that wouldn’t last a day in his time
ОтветитьJames Purefoy was a perfect Marc Antony
ОтветитьFake News. Everyone saw how cool Marc Anthony was in Rome!!
Ответить“I want lions….that run.”
ОтветитьIt would be interesting for a qualified expert like we have here to compare Julius Caesar's "right-hand man" Antony with Octavian's "right-hand man" Marcus Agrippa, who ultimately spells doom for Antony by defeating him at Actium. I would submit Agrippa to be closer to the picture often painted of Antony's competence and loyalty for his patron than Antony himself.
ОтветитьMy assessment of Antony is that he was a very good tactical commander, and a very poor strategist. Excellent in battle, terrible in war. He certainly did not understand the value of secure supply lines like his former commander, Julius Caesar(possibly the most brilliant strategist of all time).
ОтветитьSo he was Custer.
ОтветитьThis guy was obviously paid off by Octavian
ОтветитьMarcus Antonius or Mark Anthony, are you going to battle against the CaesarKing ha Garcia of the Arrow Queen a.k.a Mark, I think you're scouted already, no more surprises for you and your puppeteers.
ОтветитьA flawed, naïve politician, prone to arrogance, Antony could be a loyal friend and the bitterest of enemies. A heavy drinker, and an inveterate womanizer, he was a great lover and a poor husband!!!!
ОтветитьThe whole video is just, 'well yes, he did achieve this (100 times over) BUT...'
Like, come on man, get real. You just sound like a hater.
Wait until HBO Marc Antony hears about this nerd, he ll demolish
“That’s why I m fucking your mother”
Marc Anthony Jennifer Lopez ex
ОтветитьI am always hated on this, but I will say it again. I have always been irritated with the English accent of movies and documentaries depicting the ancient Romans and Greeks. Anyway, this talk is fascinating.
ОтветитьOne word wig
ОтветитьI'm surprised the presenter had the guts to say all this in person rather than having some poor sucker read it out in the Senate chamber. "These being the words of Dr. Adrian Goldsworthy..."
ОтветитьSay what you will about Marcus Antonius but after having watched Richard Burton's portrayal of him in Cleopatra I was always sympathetic towards him.
ОтветитьMarc Antony when nobody went for his crowning of Caesar gambit at the Lupercalia: “First chance I get, this list of people is so proscribed!”
ОтветитьSun Tzu says: There is no strength of schedule determination when you get to the finals in world domination at Actium.
ОтветитьBasically what I’m hearing you say is “He could have been great had he fought The Parthians.”
ОтветитьWho da fuq is Mark Anthony?
ОтветитьThis was interesting but would have been far more interesting if he had added what Caesar thought of Antony, or what we can infer Caesar thought of Antony.
ОтветитьCould never square his depiction on film and tv with what I know about his historical record especially his military prowess.
ОтветитьMark Anthony is a bit like Zaf Branagan
ОтветитьAnthonius Was no Labienus
ОтветитьMark Antony: Winter does not last forever. Spring comes. Snows melt.
Scipio: Is that a threat?
Mark Antony: No, I assure you, that is no threat. Snows always melt.
very cheesy video title, but very good video
ОтветитьTheatricality & deception. Powerful agents to the uninitiated. Alot people missed the Mark
Ответить"Historian demolishes Mark Antony." Tells us Antony was exactly the guy we all thought he was, and the reason why J. Ceasar picked him in the first place. Antony wasn't a military genius he was Ceasar's lackey that found himself in a good position when Ceasar died.
ОтветитьI wonder how Antony would have reacted, being told that people would still be talking about him over 2000 years after his death, but that the general consensus from the non-plebs was that he was charming but utterly mediocre?
ОтветитьThis video was sponsored by the Augustus foundation
ОтветитьSwear to god I thought this was Mitzy from Barstool Sports😂😂
ОтветитьSure, Julius Caesar was stabbed 23 times at the Curia Pompeia, but THIS was an assassination.
ОтветитьEven Julius Caesar envied Marcus Antonius. By the way, Plutarch deserves a lot of respect.
ОтветитьI think James Purefoy's portrait of Antony is pretty compatible with even this guy's criticism
ОтветитьReminds me of Napoleon's friend Murat: great cavalry commander when commander by Napoleon, but terrible strategist on its own.
ОтветитьAugustus and Marcus Agrippa were unstoppable.
ОтветитьWelcome back cicero
