Americans, we need to share this now more than ever.
ОтветитьFraction of a dot… doesn’t do enough justice. 😢
ОтветитьI love this 🙌
Ответить2025 and this video is more relevant now than ever
ОтветитьI hope 2025 is the best year yet for space exploration!
ОтветитьI named a rescue dog after him. I hope I would be able to answer the next question;
Why?
Exactly 35 years ago today, Carl Sagan said this, commenting in his famous Blue Dot speech. So true then, that is even more true today, on the day after Trump’s naive plan for Ukraine was announced ‘….. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those Generals and Emperors
So that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of that dot.’
35th Anniversary of this testament of our insignificance and at the same time our courage to understand that point.
ОтветитьEvery time i have an anxiety attack, i listen to this, and it calms me down
ОтветитьHere on Feb 14, 2025 - 35 years later
Ответить2025 here
Ответить"In this world there's room for everyone, and the good earth is rich, and can provide for everyone, the way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want, our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much, and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life would be violent, and all will be lost." ~Charlie Chaplin
ОтветитьWhenever I started to take life too seriously, I always comeback to this video. With all the BS going on in 2025, this video once again brings me so much peace.
ОтветитьIm here in 2025 as we watch our planet descend into chaos. My job is on the line, as a Federal employee, and yet I refer back to Carl Sagan. It grounds me. It centers me. It helps me realize my place in the universe which is, frankly, miniscule. I'm a tiny speck, on a tiny speck, doing tiny speck things that ultimately are overshadowed by a vast cosmos that is at best indifferent to my wants, needs, thirsts, and sufferings. The realization of my insignificance is actually liberating. It allows me to focus on being kind, generous, loving, and ultimately worry-free in the midst of my utter smallness. It's good to realize you are small. It grants you the freedom to cherish the fleeting moments one has in this realm of existence. It grants one the vision to let go of pettiness, angst, hatred, embarrassment, self-rightousness, and the myriad other insignificant challenges to our perceived "role" in this place. We have no role. We have no entitled "place" upon which we plant our flag of permanence. We are impermanent, and that allows us to utilize our time to not squander this opportunity to live.
ОтветитьBeautiful
Ответить“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:3–9 (ESV)
ОтветитьThis far into civilization and we have Donald Trump and Elon Musk essentially running the world. I feel like we’re due an asteroid. Earth needs a reset.
Ответить"So that in glory and triumphs, they could become momentary masters of a fraction of a dot"
Ответить… unless we’re all living in a simulation
Ответитьthis view approx 60 times speed of light view going away, not quite to scale though
Ответить2025 ❤
ОтветитьThis humbled me😢❤
ОтветитьYou completely F IT up by not starting with the photo.
Ответить
ОтветитьI loved the book, but this particular section has been one of my favorite quotes of all time. Sagan's carefully constructed, poetic prose is a thing of beauty.
ОтветитьI refer to this passage as "Ecclesiastes for the 21st Century." Not sure how Carl would have felt about that, but there you go. Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.
ОтветитьWho is cutting onions?
Ответить"How eager they are to kill one another."
Ответитьmy writing prof had us watch this video and write our thoughts about it, and i can very much see why
ОтветитьAnyone in 2025?
ОтветитьAnyone at 2025?
ОтветитьCompletely changed my outlook on life.
Ответитьgggg
Ответитьpale blue dot, the only home we've ever known❤
ОтветитьApril, 2025
ОтветитьHumanity 💜
ОтветитьI'm humbled and yet so proud of the awesomeness of our unique and marvelous pale blue dot that we all call home. 💖
ОтветитьThe one quote everyone should be aware of❤❤❤
ОтветитьWhile I was watching the video, I noticed some dust on my laptop screen that became visible due to the light reflection. As the video progressed, the image of the Earth blended into the dust, making it hard to see.
ОтветитьAnyone at 2078 ?
Ответитьİnsanlar gerçekleri görmekten kaçınıp yaşamını sorgulamayı bırakıp şuanda saçma sapan tamamen kurgudan ibaret video dizilerle zaman kaybediyor
Ответить"suspended in a sunbeam" is perhaps one of the most beautiful collections of words I've ever heard. I feel so much warmth towards this monologue and Sagan.
ОтветитьWas he not - the one and only to tell us what we are and where we all are ... Or was he not
ОтветитьThank you 🙏
ОтветитьThis makes little sense without the famous photo of Earth, which you don't have here...
ОтветитьI know you are from future and you are here to remind yourself something. Believe me, it is the most known peaceful speech ever
(Sorry for my English)
We must protect the destruction of our majestic, precious, fragile Pale Blue Dot...
ОтветитьThis should be the world anthem
ОтветитьTACHYMETER RULE OUT ODYSSEY WITH
ОтветитьI was going to harm some dude because he stole my expensive bike, but along the way, while I was planning for it, I came across this video. My plan crumbled like an old building. Suddenly, I felt stupid for even thinking it, my heart was full of love, and all the hatred evaporated into thin air in this tiny blue dot.
Carl, you saved my life, my friend. I know you've already passed, but you'll always live in my heart forever on this tiny blue dot suspended in a sunbeam!
