One of my kids was once invited to a birthday party and the wording on the invitation was "We want your presence not your presents". Two mothers had got together to give a combined party for the two children who had birthdays close together, thus saving them money and it was a relief not to feel obliged to have to buy a present.

Kids aren't expensive.... schools and optional sports/hobbies, are expensive. I remember schools were always wanting money for something-- fundraiser, book fairs, field trips, classroom parties, donations, snack contributions, etc. The sports enrollment fees, uniforms, fundraisers (again), food for games, volunteering to work games... it's all so dang exhausting. My last kid graduated in May... I feel RICH and FREE! LOL. OH... and completely AT PEACE because no one is bugging me for something, sending emails and putting their expectations on me!!

Hi Dana, I have a neighbor who is 75. She is in debt and she wants to get out of it. I told her about Dave Ramsey and the baby steps. Since she is older, she asked me if she -should put every cent on her bills or keep some to spend on herself since - in her words - since she is old, she could pass anytime and the scraping for the next 2 years would be for nothing. I said I would ask you what you thought because I know you followed Dave and got out of debt. What do you think ? Thanks Dana
