We've been waiting for this one with eager anticipation and Remedy does not disappoint. In our first Alan Wake 2 video, Oliver Mackenzie dissects the visuals, stacks up the PlayStation 5 version up against PC maxed out, comments on image quality and performance before delivering the verdict on the game itself. Before embargo, only PS5 and PC review code was delivered. We will return to the game on Xbox Series consoles as soon as we have the game.

On ps5 , there's no choice, its performance every time for me.

I just worry if the game is truly fun, control gets repetitive, and boring environments, im not done thru it but many hours in.

The input delay when using quality-mode is absurdly bad. I didn’t want to switch to performance, but I felt compelled to around halfway through

The PC version with path tracing looks like a different game. If you have the means highly recommend playing this one on a capable PC.

Has anyone else experienced the game's performance dipping pretty consistently on performance mode the farther you get into the game? I'm at the end of Saga's story and I've noticed that with each chapter that ends the game's framerate gets worse in areas that ran almost flawlessly at the beginning (like the town of Bright Falls).

In chapter one I never noticed a single dip but pretty much if I go into any building now it seems to dip into the 20's.

Also, there are times where the framerate will dip and the screen will kinda look like it's gonna go black screen for a second before it corrects itself. It happens a lot when I leave the Mind Place.

With performance dlss(50% of 3840x2160 internal resolution) you're getting 60fps and above on pc while comparing the quality mode on PS5 which is just running at 30fps. If you use DLSS on quality you would have a really noticeable quality increase and you wouldn't drop from 30fps ever like on PS5.

For those of you who have played it: Is this the type of game that you can enjoy at 30 fps? Or is it a game that demands 60? Thank you 😁

Well since PS5 is RDNA 1.5 and this game was financed and helped b y Nvidia and Remedy being remedy they goes where the money is and gave us a pale copy of Twin Peaks and some Stephan King books to get some millions dollars, the tech is great, it's beautiful but the optimisation is shit and Nvidia oriented, and I bet will never see an official FSR3 implementation in this game soon.

This is not a game that needs 60fps mode but the 30fps should have been locked even if it means sacrificing RT quality

I was expecting like a recommendation on the video, if there is anyone has played with both graphic options, is it worth it to take the hit on the fps department in favor of the eye candy or the 30 fps / quality ratio is not justified in any way and the 60 performance mode is the way to go? 😂😂😂😂

I started off playing Alan Wake 2 in Fidelity Mode, unfortunately the frame rate drops made it too distracting to continue on in fidelity mode and had to switch to performance mode. I hope somewhere down the line Remedy is able to implement a patch for a solid 30FPS. I will say this though, the game is stunning in performance as well. You can't really spot the difference.

I have a ps5 and I have a 13900k 4090 rig. The thing I want most is immersion ie. Dualsence adaptive triggers support does the pc have the exact same support as ps5? I remember I purchased returnal on pc to compare it and the Dualsence support was very minimal. No rain drops feeling or walking vibrations on the control. Even though it said it did have the same support.

The game looks like 💩 on consoles. All this horrible shimmering and low resolution/low settings. Tbf, Control on SX/S & PS5 had a similar look, despite having a higher internal res + raytraced reflections. If Remedy's main target is PC, they should stop wasting their time with low end hardware.

There have been 12 patches since release. The latest release notes state there are optimizations specifically to the PS5's performance mode. Can you please re-test? If the performance difference vs the Series X is no longer there, the viewers deserve to know.

Performance Mode all the way for me.

Quality doesn’t offer enough improvements to give up the mostly-smooth 60fps. I finished the game today on Hard (which isn’t that hard) and yeah, there are minor glitches, but it’s still probably the highest production value I’ve experienced in a cinematic game since TLOU2. A winner. Playing CONTROL next!

Max Payne 1 on the Xbox massively stripped back the visuals compared to PC in order to try and hit 60fps, but would frequently double buffer to 30 and even below for extended periods of time. Relatively speaking, the performance mode in this game and even others with unrefined performance modes run better than the bulk of Xbox games that shipped with unlocked framerates, which was actually a lot of them (even demanding PC ports like Painkiller). The comparison is interesting to me since these consoles have a power gap with high end PCs now that's similar to the Xbox vs. PCs of that era

I am honestly amazed by PS5. A game that doesn't even run in my 1080Ti (when it runs, 360p 22fps) and it does have similar raw power to PS5 aroud 10.3tflops, but PS5 manages to make the game runs with an impressive medium-high settings quality with FSR 2.1 getting it up to 4K 30fps or 1440p 60fps. Bro that's such an achievment in a low-price machine. What we learn from that? Raw power isn't the same as actual capabilities and how next gen consoles really are next gen, especially when it comes to performance
