I think it would be fun if the deer could get scared of by other things than yourself, or maybe even just randomly. Nothing worse than seeing an animal with better senses than you get scared off, leaving you to deal with whatever scared it

I completely misread the title. by "AI Deer for my horror game" I assumed you meant a terrifying AI-rendered image of a deer brought to life for a horror game. You were just talking about Deer AI

You should make it so it creates an invisible collision on the spot the sound came from, and if the deer sees anything (a player, monster, etc) it will run away, that way instead of it looking directly at the player, which can cause issues, it looks at the source of the noise, giving the player a more fair chance of not being spotted.
