Dragon Quest VIII is a very special game for me because it was my first Dragon Quest game. I always thought I would hate Dragon Quest because it had a medival and fantasy themed story. Boy was I completely stupid and wrong I loved almost every DQ game I played. The series really opened my mind to a totally different type of game.

As I think about this, this was my first DQ and I've been a fan ever since.

I think the western release was super interesting cause if you were weeb you were probably into JRPGs so there was that overlap given Toriyama's character designs. I remember being in the 9th grade and having hype discussions with buddies about how you could go super Saiyan in it and how Angelo looked like Trunks high key (idk if we were using that phrase yet but the sentiment was there 😂)

I remember they bundled that FFXII demo with it and I knew people who bought it just for that. But for me, I was there for Dragon Quest for sure

Yep, living in Europe sucks when it comes to gaming. Japan and US get all to good stuff then if we are lucky months or years later it will come out of at all.

I hope they re release all the Dq games, I can not play some of them as they selling for £200+.

Any game that allowed free roam fly travel and land in the area to continue was 10/10 in my books. DBZ Kid buu fury had that feel. I miss the golden bird travel in dq8

Dragon Quest 8 is in my top 10 games. i missed the 3ds version. it would be awesome is square enix released a "S" version of this game on modern consoles.

Yeah, Dragon Quest 8 is damn good. ...it, er, was the first one I played... Sorry.
Also, Level 5's thing is big ass maps. It's in ALL their games, and I LOVED it in DQ VIII. But, I just like exploring.

I had played all the dragon warrior games as a kid. When this came out I was a solid Xbox player. I saved up cash to buy a PS2 just for this title. The kid in my playing an actual 3D dragon quest couldn't handle it. Definitely one of the best DQ titles

Love this game, im replaying it for the 6th time. I’ve only ever played it on the 3ds, been so tempted to try this version but random encounters that alchemy pot taking or ever and no morrie might make it a struggle to make it though. Wish i would have found this game back when it came out

Heavenly bride sounds a little biblical. These are real life themes. Educational games. I didn't learn nothing though. Still cursed as heck! 😅

I started playing this game for the first time on 3DS. I have not had this much fun since Final Fantasy 10 on the PS2. I was really itching for a really good JRPG for a LONG time and I found it!

I also like how simple and relaxing the game is with the art style. I am not over overwhelmed with special effect that muddy the visuals. Everytime I see a pretty barmaid or hit 100% build up, it reminds me of the anime Dragonball.

One positive right off the bat that I like about it, is that it abides by “In Media Res”, so the games story already starts at a good pace.

Also I love the cell shaded look of the game!

The weird thing is that i never got drawn into Dragon Ball but i move the art style in the Dragon Quest games. It's the same legend, Toriyama, and it works differently for me.

Glad i played the 3ds version cause Morrie. I was not about to beat the game without him

Morrie is a playable character, yes, but no Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. It's hard to downgrade to 3DS sound channels when you've heard Heavenly Flight or Remembrances played by real instruments.
