Deimos, one of Mars' two moons, has a diameter of about 12.4 km, making it slightly smaller than Manhattan Island. It orbits Mars at a distance of approximately 23,460 km and takes about 30 hours to complete one orbit. The average temperature on Deimos hovers around -40°C, with nighttime temperatures dipping as low as -112°C. Believed to be a captured asteroid, Deimos is gradually drifting away from Mars, suggesting that it may eventually escape its orbit, making it an interesting object of study in the Martian system.
