There are no campus buildings that date from the mid-1700s. Washington Hall dates from c1820.
The Confederate flags which once surrounded the recumbent statue of Lee were not original to the placement, but were added later at the behest of the CDC—their removal is OK with me.

What a magical place ! My son and I toured several prospective colleges and the minute we steeped on campus we were spellbound ! The other universities were special in their own way, but W and L stands alone.. a treasure. So hopeful this venerable institution will be part of his life in 2020.
