Haha. I bet you don't miss the terrible Bay Bridge commute, one bit.
ОтветитьThank you!!
ОтветитьAlthough the opening of the new bridge had been postponed to December due to faulty bolts, a temporary fix for the problem is underway & will make the bridge open by this Labor day.
ОтветитьYeah, I read about that yesterday on the SF Chronicle's website. Pretty awesome news; I can't wait to record and present the new bridge on here. Thanks for dropping by and watching. :-)
ОтветитьI commuted on a motorcycle, so that added an extra element of danger (see watch?v=UMX5eEUnOhE). So I definitely don't miss it! The only good thing was the views of city and bay. I now ride a bicycle 3 miles for my commute - way less stressful. Cool video and great song, btw!
ОтветитьRiding on a bicycle on most urban freeways in California would seem rather scary. Especially the whole lane-splitting thing...I would crash into somebody's door or side mirror, lol. I wish I could commute by bicycle, but I don't think my 8 mile commute is anything to complain about.
ОтветитьI'm definitely not bicycling on an urban freeway - i'm pretty sure that's against the law. My commute now is on country roads to work, no freeways involved!
ОтветитьHaha...I meant a motorcycle. I got 2 hours of sleep last night...I'm about to crash for the evening.
Ответитьwhere do you recommended i go,, LA OR SF ,,, WE MIGHT have a vote for a trip just wondering which i should chose
ОтветитьSo do I. :-)
ОтветитьThat's really hard for me to say...it depends on what type of vacation you're looking for?
Ответитьany kind
ОтветитьDid ya see the idiot at 5:13 at a dead stop trying to merge onto a major interstate? That's what we have to deal with on a daily basis around here.....there are more incompetent dangerous drivers on the road than there are qualified skilled drivers. Makes spending anytime on the freeways so stressfull. This video OBVIOUSLY did not capture that.....In fact this video captured the opposite of what its really like to drive that stretch of freeway. Must have been a sunday.
ОтветитьI filmed this on a Tuesday, around 1 PM or so...I think? As for the driver who merged in...I waved the driver to come in front of me.
ОтветитьThanks!! Had so much fun putting this video together.
ОтветитьI have added this awesome video to my playlist "Enjoy the ride from all over the world." Your work is splendid! Loved the video. Cheers and smiles - Japa :))
ОтветитьThank you! I actually wasn't expecting you to actually take the time to watch this. Glad you enjoyed watching...I'll have a few new videos of the brand new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, coming in the weeks ahead. At least 1 night time video, and a couple during the day.
ОтветитьI think this video qualifies as historical footage now!
ОтветитьIf only I had known in advance that Caltrans was going to open the new bridge next week...and not December of 2013!
ОтветитьUpdate: Just released a new video, showcasing the BRAND NEW eastern span of the Bay Bridge. Come check it out!
Ответитьhey brent, do you live near frisco?
ОтветитьClose enough. :-) Down in the South Bay, in Los Altos. Was just in San Francisco this evening for dinner.
ОтветитьGlad you enjoyed watching! Feel free to watch my newest video on your spare time, featuring the NEW Bay Bridge.
ОтветитьIt was deemed to be a safety risk, in the event of another major earthquake. Experts were saying that it was highly likely the entire bridge would have came down.
ОтветитьWe almost had the same thing done in Delaware in 1995. Army Corps of Engineers opens a new cable-stayed bridge similar to the new Eastern Span, and almost tore down the old adjacent tied-arch bridge, but refurbished it for the locals, even though on/off ramps were provided.
ОтветитьI would say a big, resounding yes. :-)
ОтветитьThat's pretty cool. Any idea how much the refurbishing of the old bridge cost?
ОтветитьThe old bridge was rehabbed for about roughly $10 million; all but one of the C&D Canal bridges are owned by the Army Corps of Engineers, so no toll was placed on the old (and new) bridge(s).
ОтветитьHowdy! Glad you enjoyed watching. I had a lot of fun putting this video together; took about 2 weeks to get all the information needed, create the signs and sync it all together with the music. Check back in during the next 24-48 hours; I'm releasing a new video, showcasing the ride into downtown Toronto along the Gardiner Expressway. Cheers!
ОтветитьVery nicely put together. What software did all that?
Is just must me or is most of America a McDonalds-Walmart trailer park compared to California???
Great job Brent! Love this one too and the song!
ОтветитьRewatching in 720p60f! Still a great one for history!
ОтветитьAwesome bridge! We don't have many bridges that look like that here in Australia! Makes me want to travel!!
ОтветитьFANTASTIC video! I live in Berkeley, and so I drove this route on the old bridge innumerable times -- but never at this speed! What a rush!!!
Love all the data as well.
P.S. I arrived here from your comment on the Bay Bridge demolition video. Glad you posted the link!
Thank you. I found this by accident, and love it. I miss home, and miss the old Bay Bridge. The ride was like when I was a kid, and the music was perfect, thanks for the introduction to my new favorite song.

Ответить10 years ago today, I went across the old span for the last time in both directions when I went into the city for a Giants game. Where did the time go? I even took a couple of photos, albeit crappy quality, to mark the moment on both decks.
