You could try the original Outcast
ОтветитьIt’s the most beautiful abomination I’ve ever saw!!!
ОтветитьI won't be delving into ISA, but I do have a Pentium M desktop machine.. with 2GB DDR2 RAM, A 4GB 1050 Ti and 4x 240GB SSDs. 😁👍
ОтветитьUnless you are using a voodoo 5 5500 you aren't using the best video card..
Ответитьyou are a strange man.
a strange, but entertaining man.
Fun project. Glad I kept a couple of the computers I built MANY years ago that still have ISA slots. I think I still have a couple of Sound Blaster cards laying around somewhere. Might be fun to dust off one of these old beasts and get it running again. After all, I still have all of my DOS games stored away, along with DOS 3.0.
ОтветитьLove the cuts in fingers - I imagine from tweaking these razor blade cases from 90's. I've been just repainting and refitting my MMX 233 computer and have like 5 cuts in fingers from the insides of the case...
ОтветитьRemember, there is software to slow down too-fast CPUs to run misbehaving DOS games.
ОтветитьWatching you solder on the ribbon cable instead of a socket on the underside of the motherboard hurt - But I was not ready for the BIOS chip pad rip repair. Lordhamercy
ОтветитьThis takes me way back.. i owned an 5150. Bought it 2nd hand from my neighbor who worked at IBM. It was 1991 i believe.. Paid one hundred guilders, yeah that was the currency in Holland until the euro came. About $50 back then. I've had and build so many machines since then.. but it wasn't until windows NT and later 2000 that you didn't have to boot into DOS first..
Ответитьwindows 3.1 dessus ?
ОтветитьThis DOS PC's CPU is faster than my Windows 10 gaming PC's :)
I was wondering what kind of "Fastest MS-DOS PC" would lack a Voodoo card, but thankfully you added one 2/3 of the way through the video :)
I noticed the BIOS has hyperthreading on - there's a possibility disabling it (if you haven't already offscreen) might eke a bit more single threaded performance out of that CPU.
ОтветитьI think the sound card in my brain is broken cuz I can't keep up can you translate into brainwright
ОтветитьLet a scammer connect to windows 98, with Anydesk....LOL
ОтветитьI suppose "FreeDOS" is out of the question?
ОтветитьI have the exact same cpu, but 32 GB of ram and a Nvidia RTX 2060 and it runs all the games I have at least 60 FPS :D Anyway thnx for the win 11 bypass Idea, i will now install win 11 :)
ОтветитьMy PC had two turbo buttons
ОтветитьEs magnífico! Me suscribo. Yo también voy a querer una abominación retro
Ответитьcalifornia games is cpu clockspeed bound i think ,should be unplayably fast on that machine, there is also a shooting range game , wich was already unplayable when i switched the turbo on my amd 66mhz of or on (since the turbo button turned 66mhz into 33mhz its a weird one lol) but forgot the name of that game.
Ответитьplease overclock
ОтветитьI wasn't planning on watching a video about the fastest DOS today but here I am 30 minutes later glad that I did
ОтветитьThat is pretty impressive love the video
ОтветитьLove it, but I'll stick to eXo DOS and Emulation.
Ответитьactually im more impressed how you could install win 11, not about the old win 98, i can't even install it on my new pc
ОтветитьWhy do Americans think that a black face is racism? Are movies with black people racist too?
ОтветитьI d love to see some 3dstudio dos version benchmarks
ОтветитьI think you probably started a competition for fastest DOS bootable. Good stuff
ОтветитьConsidering how all Mario does is harass locals and steal coins maybe the "racism option" should be default?
ОтветитьYou might want to check out “ITX Llama” for DOS projects, or simply get yourself a Socket 370 motherboard with a Pentium III 633–933 MHz and 512MB RAM.
Avoid Intel chipset boards, as they’re often dead (and overpriced). Instead, look for something like the ECS P6-BAP with a VIA chipset—you can usually find one for $10–50. Matching CPUs go for about the same.
For graphics, I recommend an ATI Radeon 9200/9250 AGP card: cheap, durable, compatible with just about anything, and more than powerful enough for DOS, Windows 98, or even XP.
For sound, use a Terratec Base-1, which is easy to get and works broadly across systems. If you want better MIDI/AdLib/OPL output, add a Dreamblaster S2 (512KB SAM2695 wavetable board).
When installing software, make sure to install the Windows 98 SE mass-storage driver—this lets you use USB sticks between machines.
Finally, skip old hard drives: SD-to-IDE adapters are easier to handle, cheaper, and more widely available.
My 9900k at 5.3ghz says no.
ОтветитьDidn’t you break the rules of no emulation and “DOS PC the only runs DOS” if it can run Windows than you broke your 1st rule.
ОтветитьIRQ 7 always worked when IRQ 5 didn't, and vice versa.
ОтветитьDOS users are worse than the Amish, because at least Amish know when their technology cuts off.
ОтветитьSounds blaster compatability is not limited to ISA. I had PCI sound blaster back in the day
ОтветитьCan it run Crysis?
Ответитьlatest browser for win98 is opera 10.6 iirc
1280x1024 is also 5:4 not 4:3
but great hacking fun nice vid
With all due respect Sir, your Mad!!! LOL! but I mean that in the nicest possible way :).
ОтветитьI think the moral of the story here is, there is no such thing as Can't!, just how badly do you want it?, & how much patience have you got?, :).
ОтветитьThe fastest PC I ever saw went from memory count to Window 95 in 8 seconds.
It had a Pentium Pro @ 66 or 120 Mhz, I forget. It had a Tyan II motherboard.
They were expensive, we used to sell them to Axciom. I couldn't afford one.
You should have tested Descent 2.
Not only is it a good DOS game but if you type "descent2 -superhires" you can set the display to 1280x1024
It also supports 3DFX cards with D2VOODOO
incredible hardware hacking, great content ! Thank you 🙂
ОтветитьInteresting -- I take it PCI sound cards that support DOS wouldn't work without some kind of ISA support? There are AM4 boards with PCI slots; a 5800X3D would be pretty amazing. (Plenty of PCI sound cards work under DOS?)
Ответитьlaughs in virtualization
ОтветитьThis is such a cool project, I love it haha
ОтветитьCool dude:) i Subbed
ОтветитьYou think you know PCs? This guy knows PCs.
