After Ohio State won their last NC, they printed up a poster that was a collage of all the players on their championship team that lettered in track & field in high school. I always wonder about state’s kids and whether they participated in track at the high school level. Offensive & defensive lineman who throw the shot & discus learn transferable foot work that enhances their football footwork. Your gentleman caller was right on in talking about the kid who throws the discus over 200.

Regarding Recruiting and available scholarships—might they be saving many or most of the available scholarships for portal transfers, rather than more HS kids? Next year’s OL will certainly benefit from more plug-n-play depth and experience. Picking up 3 or 4 quality transfers just for the O-line, and maybe a proven DB, seems like a better plan than adding new freshmen anywhere else, particularly if you’re not likely to scoop up a top-150 guy.
But right now, you just don’t know who will be in the portal (other than that UNLV QB 😉, and probably a bunch of Florida State guys).
