Good documentary
ОтветитьInstitutionalized kidnapping is what it was... between the royal navy and the Barbary pirates you were screwed either way!!!.❤️🇬🇧
ОтветитьGreat achievement's here, alongside so many other great things the white Europeans have achieved, the very creation of the first world we all take for granted. Strange though, how such monumental feats are not celebrated in a white history month for example, and are in fact swept under the carpet by the woke brigade.
ОтветитьHow brutal or fair the service was to the sailors depended mostly on the quality of officers and commanders. Yes, there are inherent dangers to the life and war at sea, and it would definitely never have been a pleasurable experience...but as most service is, even today, its the comradship or lack thereof that makes it either a living hell or something you'll tell fondly about later. Great documentary, thank you.
ОтветитьThe maritime skills involved in entering, never mind winning, a sea battle at that time is mind-blowing.
ОтветитьNelson had the same lisp as Dan Snow the presenter.
ОтветитьCould a better sailor than me explain why the anticlockwise figure 8 would be a problem
ОтветитьGetting "Shanghai'd" has nothing to do with China.
Ответитьi love this channel
ОтветитьMay of been a tough hard life but it made them the best sailors the world had ever seen there discipline and seaman ship are one of the greatest examples of any military arm the world has ever seen many a time the navy were outnumbered and out gunned but there skill won the day.
ОтветитьThe presenter giggling at every mention of trauma, abduction and abuse makes this completely unwatchable. I expect the inbred babarous royalty and vile gentry of this country to look back and laugh or be proud of such terrible crimes against humanity, but why the hell would a history presenter giggle mid-sentence while talking about the horrors of state sponsored abudction?
ОтветитьDan Snow get down from there!! 🫣
ОтветитьPretty healthy diet to be honest. If they were fresh.
ОтветитьHis over enthusiasm really puts me off watching this. I lasted about five minutes.
ОтветитьOne more thing, a lot of Americans hide behind the 2nd amendment about keeping their automatic rifles and semi-automatic pistols and rifles.. You've got to Remember folks, that the 2nd amendment was written when a good rifleman or pistoleer could get off maybe 2 shots a MINUTE! Something to think about...Now we have guns that can shoot several hundred rounds per minute in some cases a thousand! When a Cannon on the U.S.S. Princeton in 1844, burst and killed 7 people one being the Secretary of the Navy and I believe an Admiral. This incident started a chain of events that helped start the American Civil War!
ОтветитьMy Brother Jeffery Allen Dyson was a 1st class boatswain's mate in the U.S. Navy for over 12 years.. He passed his tests to become a Chief Petty Officer but since he was color blind they would not give him the commendation of rank.. He was kinda upset about that.. He passed away at the age of 66 on 02/23/22.. I was so very proud of him, he learned how to sail on Lake Champlain on my Father's sailboat. My Father and Brother always loved the water..
ОтветитьBack then being masters of the sea, like England was, was the same as having complete air superiority today in any given territory... They had to grow a lot of HEMP for the Ropery, I wonder if any of the persons smoked the HEMP flowers or top buds? Probably NOT? George Washington grew HEMP on his farm. Most farmers in the American Colonies were required to grow HEMP for the Ropery..
ОтветитьIt is really fascinating to learn about the warships and the men who sailed them in this format. Nicely done!
ОтветитьAPART from the beatings, terrible grub, low wages, tyrannical sea captains. " it was a great lfe".
Ответить"12 lashes of the cat? Luxury!"
-Australian Convict..
What's wrong with sauerkraut?!
ОтветитьDuring these times especially people would snatch you up and make you do whatever they wanted or you have them your life.
Ответить"To see Britannia - crowned: The Ruler of the Waves "
ОтветитьI spent 6 years in the USN and I’m glad to say the tradition of sneaking alcohol aboard ship has not gone by the wayside. We preferred Bacardi 151.
ОтветитьGood videos but they'd be better if your narrator could manage to speak without waving his arms around so much. Very distracting. Quite unnecessary.
ОтветитьEverybody in the comments suddenly are related to someone who served in the battle of trafalgar.
ОтветитьA loose cannon can sink a man of war.
Ответитьhe literally rode a long way on that bicycle😵💫😵🚲
ОтветитьEZ
ОтветитьLet's not forget, between the American Revolution and the War of 1812, the Royal Navy stopped American Ships and sized Sailors and impressed them into the Royal Navy.
ОтветитьA fascinating insight 💚🥰🧐
ОтветитьExcellent video! One thing missing, though: Did the Royal Navy pay up to their obligations to the families of the wounded and dead? I would be surprised if they did, given the duplicity of the English elites. And if they didn't, I sincerely doubt Dan Snow would reveal that as he is part of that very elite himself and would never attack his own, i.e. his ilk and next of kin. I must say, I admire Don Snow for his programmes, his personality, and his social achievements. He is very close to the ideal husband, as described by American women, and perhaps also English women.
ОтветитьDan Snow wants the UK to be dominated by foreign powers. He is no patriot.
ОтветитьLimes last longer than lemons (I'm never without limes in my place). But sauerkraut lasts even longer. I just don't think the Brits liked it nearly as much as the Germans..hence the derogatory term 'the Krauts', when they were at war.
Ответитьwere the ultra ropes tested for their strength? Was it necessary to have them so big. or was it guesswork?
ОтветитьI strive to one day visit Britain and walk the decks of HMS Victory ! I'm hooked on these wonderful " History of the Age of Sail "
ОтветитьI`ve seen Nelson`s uniform in the Imperial War museum and it would fit a 14 years old today.
People at those times were more smaller than they are today.
You know what? I wouldn't even bother fighting for this country today, here and now. If WW3 breaks out tomorrow, let Kier Starmer and his MP's go and fight for this country. This country isn't worth fighting for. When Labour are building 1.5M houses for migrants, on Green Belt Land, while veterans go homeless, veterans who fought in wars that they started, wars that were illegal at best, while families born and bred in the UK go without a roof over their head, but any Migrant coming over fresh off the boat gets a shiny new house, bought and paid for by the tax payer, then there's something wrong somewhere. Is it any wonder that there have been riots over the UK every day now for almost a week straight?
ОтветитьLol imagine going out on piss.....🥳🍻....then waking up on....a royal navy battleship...😂...bless em..... couldn't ring home...tell there loved ones ..crazy shit....
ОтветитьDid he just say that twice layed stuff was wonderful rope? Hard horse bugger
ОтветитьImagine how low morale must've been in the royal navy.
Ответитьi went to that dockyard as a kid and it was such a great experience
ОтветитьIs it me...or does he sound / look unwell presenting this 😮
ОтветитьNothing royal about the royal family or royal navy. They treat their own citizens like trash.
ОтветитьAnother example of how the British have brainwashed people into believing they were a great empire.
ОтветитьYou didn't mention the head rail or the lubber‘s hole
ОтветитьYou learn the ropes to operate a theater curtain. You learn lines aboard a ship..
Ответить
