You see, this is where they failed with Lana. This is what the Lana Lang storyline should have been about. There are so many moments early on (in the second season too, but especially in the first) where she shows herself to be a young woman carrying so many scars, who’s confused but also incredibly empathetic—someone who wants to find herself, make a difference, and feel understood. It seems like the writers forgot all of that, and the way her character was developed throughout the seasons was so unfaithful to who she truly was. I completely disagree with the idea that she was disposable to the story, but they really failed her. She could have become someone much stronger and more independent, not just the one waiting around for Clark, living for romantic relationships, or being seen as an obstacle to the development of others.
