hannah i just finished watching interview with the vampire. and oh my god. holy shit. genuinely one of the best pieces of media i’ve ever consumed, one of the best written shows ive ever seen. louis and lestat have me in a chokehold. i just wanted to thank you for the recommendation bc now i have a new obsession and i haven’t had this kind of joy in consuming a piece of media for a long time❤

favorite book this year is a tough one for me--- one that made me escape in the best way with such wonderful worldbuilding and characters (The way of kings by Brandon Sanderson). Or a book that just stole my heart and threw it in the trash in the best way possible (Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez)
most surprising read was probably What My Bones Know--- a five star read and definitely up there in books that made an impact on me. I wasn't expecting just how good the audiobook would be and just how far the author would go when writing this memoire--- it was like a journey into watching how she discovered herself, how she found healing for her mental health. Watching her go through that process was so so beautiful and bittersweet.
I don't think the book that disappointed me the most was One Dark Window--- I am not finished with it, but i am very close to the end. I have like 20% of the book left to read. I think it says something about my interest in the story if I do not care if anyone in the story dies--- I wish the author did more to make us care about even just the main character. I do empathize with her situation, but it sort of ends there; she doesn't have a lot going on personality wise so I don't know what to make of her. And the romance in it felt rushed; I wished they had slowed it down a lot more. Part of me is hoping it was done this way so he would die at the end of book one maybe? like, a tragic, short romance that ends up pushing the plot forward for book two? maybe I'm twisted, lol--- I love me some drama and high stakes in fantasy. Things going 'well' all the time is a 'no' in my book. probably why I so enjoyed the shadowhunter chronicles, even through some of the things in her first series that did not need to happen.

The minute you said you watched good shows this year and then talked about gothic horror I knew it had to be IWTV! Would love to hear your thoughts on the show and possibly the books/movie(s)

IWTV is easily the best show right now

I read Piranesi about two years ago and haven't stopped thinking about it since. I'm also sooo excited for the film! it's getting adapted by studio laika, which is the same studio that made Coraline and Kubo and the two strings, so I'm pretty optimistic that it's gonna be good

FINALLY

lol Unwind was one of my favorite books when I was in middle school, and yeah looking back it kind of sucks. In retrospect it definitely comes off pretty prolife, although I can't find anything where the author outright admits it. Honestly best case scenario he wanted to write a body horror novel where teens get dismembered alive and then half assed some world building around that concept.

omg yes about Love & Other Words! That was my main gripe with the story. I would have rated it much higher, but after the "reveal", I was so angry with how it was all handled. I felt like if it happened to a FMC, people would have been outraged at the way it was written.
