I like how Claire acts like the mother is a bitch for not helping or not getting down there to help, not realizing she physically can't afford to leave where she is. Without her being there to do what she is doing, "Birkin" would have already made sure no one would get to her. She is basically constantly trying to slow or stop him and, realistically, she was the only one with the ability to find a way to stop him. Afterall both her and Birkin were the ones to make the virus, only they would know of a way to stop it or its host for good.
