Awesome! Here are some practical tips for practicing exercises like Qigong,Tai Chi or Baduanjin:
Warm Up and Wind Down: Before you begin, do a light warm-up to stretch your muscles and joints. After your session, take a moment to relax both your body and mind. This helps your energy, blood flow, organs, skin, muscles, and bones settle back into balance. If you’re just starting out, don’t push beyond 60%-70% of what you can handle—take it easy! Build up gradually so you can master the moves, feel the changes in your body and mind, let your system adapt step-by-step, and steer clear of strain or injury. Even if you’re a Qigong , Tai Chi or Baduanjin expert, don’t overdo it or push past your limits—health and safety always come first!
When to Take a Break: Skip your practice if you run into these: odd weather like wind, rain, thunder, smog, frost, or dampness; or if you’re stuffed from eating, super hungry, wiped out, just had sex, feeling emotional, within an hour before or after meals, or after drinking alcohol.
Stay Safe: At home, watch out for stuff around you so you don’t trip or bang into anything. Avoid practicing where there’s a draft blowing through. Outdoors, protect yourself from sunburn, frostbite, or wind—especially don’t let wind hit your back! Don’t exercise if there’s frost, snow, rain, or dew around. Bring a towel—if you sweat, wipe it off quick. Swap out sweaty clothes right away. If you sweat a lot, try my trick: tuck a dry towel flat against your back under your shirt during practice, then pull it out when you’re done.
Bathroom and Water Tips: Empty your bladder and bowels beforehand. Don’t go to the bathroom within 30 minutes after practice—hold it! If you’re thirsty afterward, sip warm water, not cold or untreated stuff.
If I missed anything or got something off, feel free to add or correct me!

ОтветитьI have been practicing tai chi every morning for a few months in a mall with a group of people, they have been there for 10 years. I have to follow every movements they are doing but I still get lost between postures and movements. I have watched many videos but yours clips are very clear, easy and informative . This is very useful for beginners just like me. Thanks so much !

ОтветитьThank you, Dr Hoover. I'm back to practice and I'm very grateful to you. My name is Maria do Carmo, I'm a 72 years old brazilian lady.
ОтветитьDear Dr Daniel, my partner Edith from Roermond in the Netherlands, had been following your videos. She liked them very much and followed them everyday. However her progressive disability means that she can no longer stand and balance properly in order to do Tai Chi. She has started to try to practise Tai Chi while seated and is wondering if you had any advice or exercises for persons who can no longer properly stand and balance. many thanks

ОтветитьI do appreciate the effort and time you both has dedicated to put together an absolutely needed and well represented Tai Chi video. Thanks for the library you both share with all of us. Tai Chi is only for those that really love his/her body. I'm 77 year old retire Special Forces soldier and right now I feel like I'm 50 and going stronger.
ОтветитьThank you for all instructions on Tai Chi movement practices for beginer like me. Its great. However, I like to know, when we have to breath-in and breath-out. As I understand, Tai Chi is connected with breath management very much. Thank you
ОтветитьWhat an outstanding introduction to Tai Chi - warm and welcoming and reassuring and clear. I'm 71 - and over the course of my life, I dabbled in several martial arts. More than once I tried to learn Tai Chi Chuan and -- frankly, soon gave up. I found it too cognitively challenging - couldn't seem to remember the movements from the time I left class to arriving home. A couple of years back, I began to practice Shaolin QiGong and Standing (Zhan Zhuang) at home. A year or so ago, I then joined a new seniors' class offering Tai Chi and health QiGong. I learned the Yang 10! Unfortunately, I no longer have reliable transportation, and so the discovery of your online training is a joy to me. Abundant thanks to you both, and to CSU Long Beach for the gift of this program.
ОтветитьSo interest the different varieties of tai chi. I started taking wu style tai chi and it is really different
ОтветитьThis was absolutely wonderfully presented. I’m so glad to have found you both. I’ve had balance issues since 2015 after having strokes in my cerebellum. I think this might be the answer for me. It’s so peaceful and easy to follow. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with so many people! I greatly appreciate it.
ОтветитьGrate form, beautiful cadans. I practice Tai Chi Tao in the Netherlands. Absolute love your video.
ОтветитьDr and Veronica ,thank for the Tai chi.
ОтветитьThank you for this. I am at present practicing Qi Gong with Lee Holden who also practices Tai Chi. He kindly does mirror image so it's easier to follow. I have practiced all the movements you demonstrate in my Qi Gong class accept not how to use the movements in combat. My only problem is I'm getting left and right muddled! and end up on the opposite side to where I'm supposed to be. Nevertheless, I find it enlightening learning how the movements hang together in one flow
ОтветитьTHANK YOU !!!
ОтветитьI’m very grateful to have found your video, thank you.
ОтветитьThis really helpful, am doing tai chi classes and this is great for reinforcing what we are learning
ОтветитьSince I watched this video 4 years ago, I have become a tai chi instructor. It isn't easy conveying the correct, precise instructions and doing the form. Having another person in the video is extremely helpful.
ОтветитьThank you. I am a 70 year old Navy/Marine Corps veteran who has studied Tai Chi with the VA Instructor for 5 years. She recently left for another job at another VA so we have no instructor at the time. I offered to lead a group based on my knowlege but they declined. I really appreciate this video you have provided. Thank you. Namaste
ОтветитьVERY NICE VIDEO
