there's a config.php option in oc/nc to notice changes to storage dir. I use it just in case while having my whole data dir on nfs share. I agree though that external storage plugin approach is nice because of hidden metadata that is being generated in main storage location and which should stay hidden from user interactions at all times.

Any Suggestions how to Transfer a OwnCloud to NextCloud on a FreeNAS Box? I believe a video tutorial how to do this successfully would be a big help to a large group of FreeNAS users.

Josh, can you do one for Resilio? I know it's basically a BitTorrent sync, but there are some differences in the configuration. I have a lot of problems with configuring Resilio and there are not that many tutorials since it just came out. Thanks in advance.

I can't seem to find config.php inside the config folder, only the config.sample.php and .htaccess? am I looking at the wrong place I went to NextCloud Terminal and went to /usr/local/www/nextcloud/config/ :(

Because of the outdated php5.5 I'm unable to install nextcloud 11. Is there a way that I can configure my own Jail to get nextcloud working with PHP7.0 and MariaDB 10.1? When I currently try to install MariaDB10.1 It won't startup. Thanks in advance. Loved this tutorial by the way. I worked instantly.

I installed it just like you did and I get this stupid error after making username and password: Data directory (/media) is readable by other users
Please change the permissions to 0770 so that the directory cannot be listed by other users.
freeNAS is worthless

I stumbled across this video after my Nextcloud install (/facepalm) whilest looking for a way to backup my nextcloud files, database, and web directory. I see a generic guide on nextcloud's site, but i'm skeptical as to how to restore it. (Never had the chance to restore a database)

If I get a static IP from my ISP, would I still need to go the 'purchased domain and DNS server' route you taliked about in the comments? That is, to access nextcloud over the internet. My router is a pfsense build if it matters.

How do I access the information remotely? When I boot up the nextcloud desktop client it asks for my server address, but I do not know what it is.

Can someone help me with my headache? I downloaded the NextCloud app and I want to be able to upload pictures and videos from my phone to the NAS I have at home. If I follow this tutorial, will I be able to do it?

Why is that plugin still in the stone age? Even version 11 is already unsupported!

Very appreciative of the effort that went into the making of this plugin. Problem is Nextcloud quickly iterate new versions with new features & break backwards compatibility (especially mobile clients) rendering the plugin useless. The owncloud plugin is a bit ordinary but at least still works with mobilde clients as at May 2018.

If we had a recipe for how to create the Nextcloud plugin on shipping FreeNAS 11.1 then many folks could create fresh versions for themselves instead of being beholden to one person on earth.

Thanks for all the work. The install works great. It left me, though, with a big security vulnerability and as a result I was hacked. The health warning is not the plugin / or the video - but rather a reminder to secure the install (my failing)

I ran the Nextcloud plugin on FreeNAS-11.2-RC2. Database location defaults here: /usr/local/www/nextcloud/data. I am not able to create an admin account. What do I need to enter for Database user, database password and database name?

I don't know if this will be relevant anymore but hopefully I can help others. When it says it installs successfully it will show a log. DONT CLOSE IT! Copy the log into a notepad doc and keep it, the username and password you put in on the bottom screen of setup are in the log. ex. dbadmin (for username)
