i had 2 SKAR ZVX-12v2 subs and I tried putting them in a pre-built box and I was not happy at all. I had a bad impression with the skar subs until a buddy of mine showed me his custom birch wood box he built and yeah, it has PRESSURE! Those things need boxes custom built for not only the subs, but your car as well. I had my buddy build me a box like his and OMG I could not believe it. It felt like i went from 2 12's to 4 because it slapped that much cleaner and harder. Ever since then, i refuse to buy pre-fab boxes or use any box unless I had it custom built. There's alot of little tiny tricks that go into building boxes you dont see and many are kept pretty secret as well.

Also yeah smoking at the end means you got the voice coil way way too hot, you gotta let them things cool off, hopefully you didnt cause damage, hopefully it could have even been dust from the box or if he painted the inside maybe the paint lol but I would totally make sure your not letting those subs bottom out and hit beyond the excursion limit. There's a very distinct sound you can heat at the subs if you look at them while they're goin.
