Starlink Mini In-Depth Setup and Review

Any idea as to exactly when you start getting charged? I am asking because I am not sure I want to spin mine up yet do to an upcoming trip in just over 30 days from now. Not sure if I can at least do updates and such. And yes, I am cheap.

I wonder if this will be working if you install it on balcony. On edge of the railing/balustrade. Seen zero videos on this subject. Plan to instal it in residental apartment toward the see view. Mobile LTE/5G is blocked by huge buildings from this side :-(

It’s a piece of cra#. Starlink is already out of date. It’s a second rate package. Huawei provides 6G which is 100% faster and more reliable.
The US could try pressuring allies to not use huawei but since trump alienated all US allies this is no longer an option. No sane person wants all the crazy, paranoid US spy agencies routinely eavesdropping on messages.
China represents a lesser of two evils, it’s better value for money, it’s more reliable and has vastly superior download speeds.

Our India have best JIO AIR FIBER, No device charges, only monthly recharge 8.11 Dollar i.e 706.82 INR for 30Mbps, is the best service in india. No need STARLINK in india, its too costly 620 Dollar for device and 50 Dollar for Recharge.

Can the power supply lay on its side or does it have to be sitting straight up and down in the receptacle? I'm only asking this because I want to put it on a 2 ft long extension cord inside my van to keep the other power receptacle next to the one I'd be using free and open. Some power supplies don't like to be on on its side due to potentially overeating.

I just bought a Starlink Mini, so hopefully this information helps. I bought mine so that I could drive to more remote places and work during the day and camp/hike evenings and weekends without the need to first travel to the location. For my remote setup I purchased a StarGear USB-C to DC cable and a RJ45 coupler for WAN. To power it I purchased an Anker Prime 27650mAh/250W power bank and an Anker 737 24000mAh/140W power bank. For additional power I purchased an Anker Solix C1000 with a BP1000 expansion battery. To charge those, I purchased an Anker Solix PS400 and PS200 solar panels. It's not a cheap setup, but after testing, I am very impressed. The 2 smaller power banks will run the Starlink Mini for around 12 hours, give or take. Running my Macbook Pro M4 Max, 2 Espresso monitors, and a speaker, while charging my phone, all on the C1000/BP1000 duo, I can work for 6 days between recharging, but that doesn't matter because with the PS400/PS200 solar panel setup, I can get enough charge for a days work with just a couple hours of solar charging. I am a developer, so I'm not doing anything too intensive, but with the wired connection there was no noticeable difference in work conditions between this setup and my home setup. Working on websites, pushing to Github, streaming videos and Spotify while working, answering emails...the transition between mobile and home setups has been seamless with no difference in how I work. The speeds have been great, and this has been in less than ideal conditions, i.e. overcast and partially obstructed northern sky views. I'm hoping to test the limits of this setup more thoroughly this summer, but so far this has made a dream of mine a reality. I highly recommend.

I’m definitely interested but I need to understand how the satellite internet works. Is it a one off cost per month? Is it unlimited data? Do you choose a speed for download/upload or is it a set speed and price?

I’m looking at this simply for the fact I can’t have wired connection at work and I’m planning on using this at home for my PS5 and then take it to work for my computer there. Will this work in a house window or does the dish have to be outside

Whats the emergency use case? E.g. power goes out... can I set up the mini just for the few days I have no power? So am I paying the monthly fee while I'm not using it or can i quickly activate it once power goes out(presuming I've previously set it up already). (I know you said you can pause it once set up, but pausing it for a month is different than what i'm asking). Can it be used to give my phone wifi capability? Recent power outage caused us to lose all cell service as well - needed wifi (which doesn't work if not power so also need a power station). I have Spectrum for internet/ wifi /streaming /land line.... so in theory I should be able to just plug my existing spectrum modem router into the power bank... but this might use less power....
