I'm from Cyprus Greece. And I'm here to honour the Argentinians. My family fought against British colonial rule in Cyprus. 1955 - 1959. British are wanted in Greece for war crimes. It's disgusting to see the UK government trying to sweep their atrocities under the rug instead of persecuting all of the terrible British involved. My great grandfather was tortured to death by the British and my grandmother survived but she had to run to escape torture, and she managed to hide in a well, gashing and breaking her leg on the descent. She died a few years later in my mothers arms. I know that a few British people had nothing to do with the invasion of Cyprus, Greece, but there is still some semblance of hate within me towards British. My family hate the Scottish bagpipes and hate the Scottish people from Scotland. My Uncle and Aunty were Eoka veteran's and Hated the English and the Scottish the most. In Greece and Cyprus we Call the British invaders, bastards and terrorists.

I was stationed at the Naval Amphibious School at Little Creek Amphibious Base ( Naval Gunfire Support Trainer) during this. After it was over, there were briefings held there with American and British Naval Officers. I had the opportunity to view several photos from the damaged and destroyed British ships. Some of them were just unbelievable.

"The tragedy is that human beings are prepared to gkve so much to war -- and yet, so little to peace."

Can we stamp this across the threshold of every city hall, school, politician's desk, and public space in those places where men who have never fired a rifle, nor taken fire, call out so loudly and recklessly for War?

Can we paste this forcibly upon the forehead of every father who loudly demands his sons go to wars they themselves do not understand?

Can we beat this into the brains of those who think "national glory" on far-off adventures are worth the deaths of innocent lads and fathers and husbands in a cause built solely on human indifference?

No one is so opposed to War as those who have tasted it. To thoss who have not -- it is sweet. But to those who have -- it is the bitterest poisn, the vilest drug, the most abominable counterfeit of "glory."

True Glory is working towards a better world.

The older generations have lamented the fact that the new generations (in 2023) are too cynical and don't believe in mythos anymore. Perhaps the blessing of that precocious cynicism is that the Young will become too cynical to elect politicians who demand nationalistic power-grab invasions in the first place.

The Falklands truly was a moral tragedy, for the Brits and the Argentinians, who fought because of one grand delusion that invaded the lives of real people.

If we put as much effort into peace as we do into war --

What a World that would be...

As a Marine, this shows you how poor planning, which is no planning, does not work. Failing to plan is planning to fail. No excuse. I feel terrible about what happened because they were easy prey. The arrogant commander of the ship was a disgrace and disgusting idiot. He knew what could have occurred from past sinking of ships from the AAF. These officers were thinking more about their ranks rather than good information that would save them.

I find the testimony at the end of “the argentines should have won, but they didn’t get their act together” kind of hollow. The more I learn, the more I realize the Brits never really had their act together as a command and won through no reason but the incredible bravery of their soldiers. It reminds me of the saying: ‘Lions led by donkeys.’ Having said that, I think the British vets have much to be proud of.
