nice vid 😃 but seems expensive 💰
ОтветитьI've seen this done with a silicone and naphtha mix.
ОтветитьSeems like an easier way to waterproof fabric than the ones I have seen on NightHawkInLight. I think he's done 2 types but theylook a little more time consuming an more steps.
ОтветитьTank you, Mr. Bender, for another useful, inovative video. Staay well & safe. Cheers.
ОтветитьAnother way to waterproof material list is the soak it but this way is easy to do and although you didn't mention it that same spray could be used to waterproof other items like leggings or maybe even shoes or a backpack or other things that you want to modify to work better for you
ОтветитьThis is a great how to video. However, at $12/can times 12 cans that's expensive. But it's good to know this sort of thing. What about oilskin?
ОтветитьA twin air mattress works great too, their rubber, just split the 3 sides and open it up. Just $8 to 10$
ОтветитьOr just go out and buy a gortex bivvy bag or us military poncho.
ОтветитьI have used this stuff on roofs and gutters but never dreamed of using it to make a waterproof ground sheet. Thanks James for your many useful videos
ОтветитьGreat,,tutorial jim
ОтветитьDD tarps it is then😮😂😂😂
Ответить2 and a half pounds. Modern poncho weighs in at 300grams - less than a pound. We've made some progress since then.
ОтветитьIs there an advantage of the rubber blanket over a tarp? Just wondering.
ОтветитьGreat video. Thanks a bunch. 2 questions:
1. do you think that spray-on stuff would bind to one side of a mylar blanket? (the cheap, never get it back in the package kind)
2. can i buy one of those homemade gum blankets from you? $50? $75? $100? i see how easy it is to make but i live in an apartment and don't really have a place where i can leave it to cure. i can do my own grommets if that affects the answer. however, i'm wondering how feasible it would be for me to sew some loops on instead after the rubber coating is applied?
What is a good long lasting hobo good for travel? Read a book where it said a traveler had nothing but dried bread. Any ideas? Thanks
ОтветитьThis episode reminded me I have to find my waterproof blanket in basement :) Few years ago I tossed it there and since then noone have seen it 🤣🤣🤣 Great job !
ОтветитьNice! If I recall correctly, if you coat the underside with corn starch there won't be the bleeding through...it's been years though so I may have that wrong.
ОтветитьWHAT ABOUT BLACK LAYTEX PAINT..AND THE FLEX SEAL THAT COMES IN A GALLON..FOR THE EVERY DAY WALMART LOW PRICE OF$110.00..DO YOU KNOW OR HAVE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PRODUCT..I HAVE ASKED AT A FEW STORES AND NO ONE HAS HEARD ANYTHING..
ОтветитьCAN YOU DO A VID ON THIS STUFF. LIKE FOR GUM CLOTH AND I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR WHAT YOU THINK..YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINION ON THIS STUFF WOULD MEAN ALOT..LOVE ALL YOU DO.THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT GREAT OLD WORLD/OLD SKOOL STUFF THAT HAS BEEN LOST IN TYME ..TO ALL THIS MODERN GARBAGE..
ОтветитьMay I ask where do you find your clothes?
Or anyone whos into it.
Id love to get 20s 30s hobo outfit, but in Finland I can only find costume party shops outfits, nothing real.
Awesome video
ОтветитьLinseed oil will water proof it to
ОтветитьNice.
ОтветитьAny chance we'll see more 18th century videos? I've been patient and watching. We're a tad bit disappointed that it ended as soon as the cabin was built. Seems like it's been the Hobo channel since then. We miss our time period!
ОтветитьDid hobos ever camp together sometimes? Can you do a video on Hobo etiquette?
ОтветитьI’m blind so I can't see what it is you're rubberizing, what is the blanket/material that you're sealing?
ОтветитьDon't forget to harvest the glass marble from the empty paint cans. It's clear and can be used for solar fires.
ОтветитьWouldn't it be cheaper to buy a waterproof tarp..or two? The price of making it from so many cans of the RustOleum stuff... even on sale... seems it'd be pretty prohibitive.
ОтветитьThey make that flex seal in a gallon sized now. Do you think it would go on too thick without it being aerosolized?
ОтветитьLove this video ! I have fixed my leaking copper flat roof with the spray . Temporary fix on 150 yr old survivor but economical. I am going to make some tarps and buy some fresh product for roof touch up too. Thanks!
ОтветитьVery cool project! Great demonstration on how to make it!
ОтветитьWow, love this. Once had a rubberized poncho. Got rid of it as acid because it was heavy. Wish I still had that one!
ОтветитьOK. I was going to watch this whole video, but your cost keeps going up, and up. I’m guessing that those cans of that spray are probably $12-$15 each. No thanks. And then I have to put grommets on it?Pass. I can do that, I have a kit. But I really only need maybe one on each side as I can tie off the corners without grommets. Duh. And I can waterproof pretty much anything for a lot cheaper than what you’re showing. Muslin is not real sturdy. it’s a rough weave of cotton, and a painters tarp would work better. And then I can waterproof it way cheaper than what you’re depicting. You’re using way too much product. When you could probably buy something similar for cheaper than what you’re showing. I know how to do this. I’ll pass on your set up.
ОтветитьI did this. The wind picked up and I got a lung full of spray. Now my lungs are waterproof. I wont drown. 😅😅😅😅😅😅
ОтветитьWill canvas work the same??
ОтветитьTHEY DIDN'T HAVE RUBBER IN THE CIVIL WAR IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ОтветитьThat spray is just silicone. You can buy silicone caulk for 10$, mix it in a solvent like mineral spirits or alcohol then soak any old sheet in it and it works pretty good
ОтветитьThanks for the video, but was it cheaper material wise to build it than to buy it?
Ответитьwow. Almost $50 for 3 cans of that stuff! So just the rubber spray was $100.
ОтветитьGuta Percha.
ОтветитьWEN I ASKED IF YOU CAN DO A VID ON FLEX SEAL,I DO A LOT OF WORK FOR A LADY FREND AT HER HOME.WEL I TOLD HER THAT I WAS THINKING OF THIS TO COAT THE ROOF OF MY OLD VAN..SHE SAID THAT SHE USED THE CLEAR STUFF TO REPAIR THE BOTTOM OF A 5 GAL BUCKET..AND SAID IT WERKS REALLY GOOD..BUT YES IT IS PRICED LIKE STARBUCS KOFFEE..CRAZY EXP.
ОтветитьHOW WILL THAT WERK ON A CANVAS TARP..
Ответить😬
ОтветитьCan i use 3 can of silicone watet guaered and a can of flex seal white liguidd rubber would you it itinitially orjust 3 cans of white flex sealrubber or the 3 waster silicon what work best
ОтветитьWill3 cans of flex seal work the same can i use them the same way
ОтветитьHighly flammable????
