A-block from the morning newscast on the ABC affiliate serving the Marquette, Michigan market, recorded on Monday, September 9, 2024. The station is owned by Morgan Murphy Media, who acquired it late last year from the estate of longtime owner Stephan Marks.

This is the first day for My UP News, which will originate from the WJMN studio in Marquette using their team and resources. The staff at WBUP is remaining with the new operation contributing to the new newscasts, but none of their talent was selected to present it. Instead, WJMN shifted their weeknight team to mornings and moved the weekend team to weeknights. They also canceled the weekend news. I am unsure if that's temporary until they get the hang of things, or if that is permanent.

Not surprisingly, like all other Morgan Murphy stations, they are using that gray-ish blue/orange/white look the rest of the group has, as well as using "Vision" from In The Groove Music, which is the official news theme of Morgan Murphy Stations. Eric Gordon was kept as the voiceover artist. While you don't hear him in the open, he does the talent bump and the promos.

Newscasts will air weekday mornings 5-7, weeknights 6-7pm, 10pm, and 11pm. The morning and 11pm are exclusive to WBUP. The 6pm half-hour will be shared with the two stations. The 6.30pm half-hour and 10pm newscast will be exclusively on WJMN.

Anchored by Rebecca Bartelme with weather from chief meteorologist Tom Kippen.

The echo on the one guy is awful, I’m not sure if it’s a sound mixing with the studio

Are they filming this in a dark cave? The echo is terrible.

This seems like a reunion of sorts for ABC and WJMN-TV 3, since WJMN-TV 3, alongside former big sister, WFRV-TV 5, were both affiliated with ABC from 1983 to 1992, when their ownership group, Midwest Radio & TV, Inc. was purchased by the CBS Corporation and made both stations into CBS-owned stations alongside WCCO-TV 4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, who was already a long-time CBS affiliate. They both ceased being CBS-owned stations in 2007 upon their sale to Liberty Media.

After nearly 20 years with CBS, WJMN-TV 3 lost the affiliation to an upstart, WZMQ 19.2, in 2020, while former semi-satellite WFRV-TV 5 has remained with CBS ever since...
