According to Adrian Underhill, in his seminal book 'Sound Foundations', 'connected speech is not just the sum of its individual words. Continuous connected speech consists of a flow of sounds which are modified by a system of simplifications through which phonemes are connected, grouped and modified.'
Understanding the different phenomena of connected speech (when sounds disappear, change, become weaker etc.) is pivotal for effective listening, and very desirable for communicative speaking as well. In this course, we'll study all of the different phenomena of connected speech and how they can have an enormous impact on our use but, especially, on our listening skills.
If you're an English teacher, an advanced user of the language, or if you're preparing for an international exam such as Cambridge C1 or C2, this course is certainly for you!
