NASA and all other planetary space science missions need crowd funding from the public.
ОтветитьI love me some Grinspoon.
ОтветитьPlanetary science is doing quite well, it's Astrophysics that need funding bad...
ОтветитьOmg "And there's alot more that I could tell you about Charon, but it's getting late in the hour, and I want to get to the Star of the show; Pluto." He says, OVER AN HOUR into his less than two hour speech!
Even HERE, we can't escape hearing the SAME story, about the successes and failures of the mission to Pluto, instead of just learning about Pluto itself. I realize it's called; "inside the mission to Pluto," but there's REALLY more to say about the spacecraft you made than the actual PLACE called "Pluto" and it's cosmic environment?!
Seriously! Watch ANY program or documentary, just type in the word; "Pluto." And you CANNOT find information about the planetary system without having to first hear the information about the mission to the system, and how they lost and regained contact with the spacecraft 11 days before it's arrival.
It's frustrating.
It's not like that isn't part of the story, or that it isn't important. But, we've HEARD it already!
Now, we just want to know what that mission discovered about the cosmic object for which it was designed. Surety, there's more than enough interesting information to fill an hour long symposium lecture on the topic, without having to spend the first 40+ minutes of your allotted time telling the story of the mission again!

i just LOVE listening to mr. stern! everything he says is interesting and he has the ability to "catch" people with his way of lecturing:)
ОтветитьI followed the New Horizons Pluto flyby from my room in a psychiatric hospital; the inspiration the mission evoked in me surely saved my life. It made one of the most difficult times ever so much easier. I'll never forget it ... <3
