Maasin is home to an inactive volcano, Mount Kijabot, situated in the mountain barangays of Nonok area/ Pansaan area.

We went to hike mount Kijabot and the climb was not a walk in the park. The way up is steep and narrow. It will take approximately 30 minutes to go up to the top from the base hike which is in lower Pansaan. But the feeling of reaching the top is more than amazing. One can't get enough of the panoramic views from the top. It was incredible.

The mountain top is so narrow of just over a meter in across (and steep cliff on either side), and about three meters at the widest point that's accessible to people. A cross is also installed at the top.

How to get there:
Option 1: By private vehicle, drive upland to barangay San Rafael (Bantig) all the way to Santa Cruz and onward. When we were in Santa Cruz area, we asked around where is the base point for the hike to mount Kijabot.

Option 2: By public transport, we hopped in a public trike from the trike terminal (side of Brodeth/ near SLSU-MCC). Since we have a contact in Santa Cruz, we alighted there and just use private motorcycle going to lower Pansaan. The trike fare from downtown Maasin to Santa Cruz is Php45.00.
