“…Moody's cuts America's pristine credit rating, citing rising debt…President Donald Trump's efforts to cut taxes and send ripples through global markets…”17 May 2025 Reuters. It makes US Bond interest rate higher to get other countries to buy our debt. It’s like a homeowner trying to get a second mortgage and being told you must pay a higher interest rate because you have a poor credit score.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 gave Trump’s billionaire supporters a tax break and make it permanent in the 2025 budget. Cutting federal entitlements only pushes the debt to individual states and doesn’t make up for the lost revenue from Trump’s billionaire supporters’ income taxes. “…Moody's cuts America's pristine credit rating, citing rising debt…President Donald Trump's efforts to cut taxes and send ripples through global markets…”17 May 2025 Reuters. It’s like the bank increasing your credit card interest rate you must pay because of your poor credit rating when you only pay the minimum monthly amount, and your monthly debt is increasing.

With China and Japan both holding a large share of the available U.S. Treasury Bonds, what would happen if they suddenly decided to LIQUIDATE these holdings and just flood the bond market?

...especially at a time when our current and projected GDP is facing a severe DOWNTURN and the National Debt is projected to INCREASE past ALREADY record levels...

In economic terms, that sounds like a "perfect storm"...
Is this a real concern or am I missing something here?

I'm glad there are others aware of the tax breaks for the rich that are occurring under Trump. It's not a Republican or Democrat issue so much as it is a Oligarchy issue. Trumps facade has his supporters all in head first, many of them don't even realize they aren't on the elite bus.

As a Canadian I’m happy to hear that the 351 billion that the Canadian government holds in US treasury bonds is now paying a higher yield. Our dollar is up 3%, our tourism industry is up, our overall trade with the US is down 6.6% but is up 25% with the EU. Having an economist as our Prime Minister is paying off

Often overlooked in the conversation about running up trillions in debt (Trump 1.0 hiked it by 25% in just 4 years) to finance tax breaks for the über wealthy is the multiplier effect of interest costs as a percentage of GDP. This doesn't get past the institutional bond market.

The most important thing everyone should think about right now is how to invest in different sources of income that are not dependent on the government. Especially given the current economic crisis around the world 🌍 . This is still a good time to invest in various stocks such as gold, silver and digital currencies. all thanks to Jason Coleman for coaching me✊

“The stock market crash of 1929 was (obviously) very bad. But it was not, on its own, enough to cause the Great Depres-sion. What turned the crash into a worldwide disaster was the gold standard and the profound instability that went with it.

To be fair, it wasn’t the gold standard alone that broke the world. It was helped along by the powerful institutions that were at the center of money, and that saw themselves as the guardians of the gold standard: central banks. In the United States, that meant the Federal Reserve.”

The US has GDP of 2%p.a. (and shrinking) and Debt that is increasing at 10%p.a.
ANY COUNTRY WITH THOSE NUMBERS IS A BASKET CASE.
As Bond Yields rise, so do inflation and interest rates.
THE MORE DEBT YOU HAVE, THE MORE EXPOSURE YOU HAVE TO INTEREST RATE RISES.
As interest rates rise, the Government needs to suck more money out of the economy to meet its interest payments.
This year alone, more than $7T debt will fall due, and the US Govt will try to sell more debt to cover it (as they cannot afford to retire this debt) and they will pay triple the previous interest rate on new issuance.
As the Government tries to meet the higher interest costs, it takes more money out of the economy (further reducing GDP).
So you have a two edged sword of spiraling debt and interest rates coupled with a crippled GDP as the Government taxes and tariffs the economy to try to pay the interest.
There are some ways out, but all of them are horrific, and the longer it goes on, the worse it will be.
