Con was My hore
Loved this rivalry. There was always a bit of spice between the two and you could tell they couldn’t stand losing to each other.
The second call Was Definitely Out !😮
They are very badly behaved.
Oggi come oggi Gimbo, con Sinner, perderebbe a zero ogni set😂😂😂🤣
Those two hated each other and it was gold watching those two play each other. From the late 70's to early 80's those two along with Borg were the best in tennis.
Much more skill, smaller faster ball. Way more fun
Jimmy Connors 💙
I think the love for the sport is more profound during this era. Dedication is very evident!
It's unfathomable how boring tennis is today.
Why does bats in baseball have to be wooden, but in modern tennis you can run around with monster rackets with strings and frames that take away from the skill
This is so exciting. Let’s finish the point with beautiful approach shots, volleys, serves, passing shots, over heads ect……
Now everyone gets excited for a 99 shot rally. I call that practice
Semplicemente inarrivabile! SUPERMAC!
Playing this attacking format of serve and volley was more exciting.
Tennis should have one tournament a year where all players use the same small headed wooden racket, all strung the same and then the winner is really the best player where skill prevails🤷♂️😎
The dunk volley by Mc was pretty gangster even used finesse on that
On ne s en lasse pas.
This footage has shocked me seeing McEnroe’s service technique back in his younger days 😮 He changed his pre-service stance and action at some point to the unorthodox and effective serve the tennis world has known through his long and outstanding professional career and to present day.
He wasnt my favorite player back then but in hindsight there is no player I love to watch more than Jonny Mac
Qué, no se acuerdan de John McEnroe?
Conners is amazing
In 1978, a young John Patrick McEnroe was almost identical with the, now, world famous U.S./California skateboarder Tony Alva!
They are quite close of age (Alva born September 2, 1957 & McEnroe born February 16, 1959). They both rose to int'l FAME in 1977.
McEnroe was my favorite. I love serve & volley because I played basketball & that's was the most fun way to play.
Boom-Boom' Becker at Wimbledon '85 gave birth to a new era in mens tennis. The power game. Legends like McEnroe & Connors were passed by.......
The original McEnroe serve before it got over complicated.
I remember all those matches and I believe Connors is 7 years older
Love the 70’s/8-‘s era of tennis, such great personalities.
Hard to watch….so lame
The great days of tennis stars...skill and not a power game which has made the game a bit boring in my view.
I once tried to hit with that t-2000 you can't generate any pace if you try to hit it with top spin...you gotta have an eastern grip on both sides and if you hit it right /flat/ it might go over the net😁
Never liked McEnroe. Nothing appealing about his technique, style, or most of all his awful manner.
Movement is so good.
The lines persons are blind. Can't they see the balls. They need eye doctor.
I remember the day, the super Saturday, in the USOPEN tennis history❤
What a pleasure to watch!!!
Mac was a geniuous. Jimmy was a warrior. But the first looked like a gentleman, given Connors's gestures and vulgar reactions. Anyway, a thriller!
McEnroe was not playing his best tennis yet and he already defeated Connors in straight set. The serve was nowhere near when he was dominating.
Connors,Borg and McEnroe the big three in that era of tennis. Before Federer,Nadal and Djokovic.
Conners forehand swing looks so weak. I know how good he is obviously but he hardly ever takes a full swing at the ball.
I am Japanese , so , can use English little.
at 1978 , McEnroe's service is normal style ?
I thought , McEnroe's service is closed style from start of professional career.
Trabert really sucked at this. he always told us what we just saw ~ he never said anything interesting to reveal his expertise.
Both players looking to attack on every shot. Establish position at the net, where has that tactic gone ? A typical match John would be at the net 100 times. Watch the footwork of both players, when they got to the ball their feet were always under them for balance and weight transfer. Not taught today! Loved Jimmy's forehand when he hit sidespin, never see that shot today.
Jimmy was practicing at my club in Potomac Maryland one day. He was jumping rope for an hour while talking to thr converse shoe rep. He never missed jumping rope for and hour. He told me that was his training, that and playing one in one basketball. When his hitting partner showed up Jimmy would play points hitting to a doubles alley while lonny hit to the entire court (singles and doubles). Jimmy had so much lead tape on the head if his racket when I picked one up it felt like I was holding an axe.
When I met John we shared some scotch and party favors. Off the court they were very nice and friendly.
If you ever played tennis with a T-2000 racquet, you'd appreciate the skill of Jimmy Connors.
I bet any of today's top women would clobber these guys. It looks like slow-mo.
