I think Derek would find a lot of valuable cognitive dissonance in checking out Ralph Ellis (Illumination Lectures) and Tim Fletcher on Complex Trauma (addictive behaviours and crap childhoods🤦) really helps me and I really recognise his driven narrative explanations for life/Christianity/church history 🤦

Great discussion today. The “tool fixture” conversation is the key to the vase convo. Regardless of the method, one simply cannot create works of high level precision without a very stable and controlled fixture, and a cutting head of equal precision (and requisite temper to cut the material)…which, sticks tied to rocks does not explain! Not to mention the planning required. The stone chains of India are great examples of the planning aspect, albeit on a different scale.

Instead of the abrupt silence at the end it would be nice if you say goodbye to the listeners or play an outro tune.

Hey guys, appreciate the comments! Fully understand questioning the Bible isn’t content for everyone. Recognized that completely, but it’s still a topic I’m personally fascinated with and want to hear alternative perspectives about. Have to stay true to my authentic self, otherwise I’ve lost the point of the podcast and life itself. Derek is a great guy and I know lots of people enjoyed it and learned a lot. Love you guys thanks for putting up with all of me.

Amazing podcast! So glad you had Derek on. He's really genuine and knows his stuff. I've been following him for a while now. I am newer to this channel, but enjoying your conversations with a lot of my other favorite podcasters. Love getting academic and alternative perspectives after growing up with doctrine which I was unable to question adequately. Looking forward to seeing you both catching up with Billy and Paul and seeing how your ideas relate and differ.

I was at a Baptist chruch in my teenage years (not through choice, but thanks to my mother, thanks mum!) where they would speak in tongues. In that Church (don't know if it's all churches or not) every "tongue speak" had to be followed by a normal speak interpreting the tongues. On one occasion, someone spoke in tongues, another interpretted, all good right? No, someone else piped up with "no, that's not what god's saying, he's saying this" and offered a second interpretation. This was one (of many) things that raised a red flag to me of the entirely fake nature of it all and eventually led me to 'wake up' and escape.

As I responded to your comment, I'm a Christian that welcomes this kind of discussion. While I believe, I also understand no one knows the 100% truth of our history and origins. And hearing different perspectives on anything is an integral part of enlightenment and communication.

Personally, I think Derek here has it backwards. The the mythology was derived from the original writings and tellings of our origins starting with Genesis. Along the way many of those stories have been manipulated or even lost. It's the game of telephone lined with thousands of years of bad intentions. But no matter the culture, we're all telling the same story with minor differences, but the same backbone of a story i.e. massive flood with only a few survivors- Noah, Gilgamesh, etc.

William T karlson is Billy’s really name. Billy has been arrested for fraud and changed his name. He runs several shell companies and offers 8000 dollar crypto investing course. There is so many channels that have investigated him with PHYSICAL evidence confirming these accusations. I can provide links, he has hurt a lot of people.

Matt does a great job of making sure when he has a guest beyond esoterica on to raise certain key questions to outline like the top 10 key points of their corpus.

I hope he continues to lean into asking guests the questions us viewers want to ask. We want the juicy deciphered answers these people can bunch together as their all time critical points to be heard. Keep it up!

Man Derek, I literally cried laughing at the story about driving high next to your wife and seeing yourself looking back at you. I can so relate here!! lol. I also hallucinate if I try and smoke after all the other stuff I’ve done… Sadly I can also relate to your struggles with addiction. 10 years clean for me. that parable about God placing himself in each of us and you then finding God within yourself… moved me to tears. The bible is showing us and teaching us to not be a Narcissist. The Narcissist is the deadly seven sins into one. The Greed the Lust, the Ego the Pride, the Envy. judging others before we check ourselves, only caring about yourself, not helping the needy, not helping the homeless. Not caring about the input and output of others. This means that we lack empathy as humanity. We killed God for that, We killed Also a human being along with that processed.

Do you people not understand what we have all done? WE simply killed Jesus for speaking truth of the religious sects upholders. The faults of our world comes down to Narcissism being unchecked and approved by Government and the State and The people. and everywhere else in the world. Narcissism is the very reason the roman Empire, had fallen why we had world wars. Why there is still war in the Middle East. We killed a man for speaking truth and love and forgiveness? Great point of view.. except everyone is correct in their own interpretation of the bible. its not a set rule book thats why theres so many different versions. each persons interpretation reflects their own life and thats what makes the personal connection so strong. as long as you are finding messages in the bible you are doing it right. JUST LET JESUS HAVE HIS KIDS😂

Who told this guy all the other books aren’t real? The reason Christianity is right is because Jesus said what was going to happen and it did. Other ppl said they were the son of god but they died.

love the mindset of approaching ancient myths as containing wisdom, meaning, and truth when viewed through the right perspective. but i especially feel this way about christianity since it is a religion we largely descent from. i don't assume this to be incidental or trivial to our civilization and values. common sense tells us it grew out of what came before, as most things do. it would be nice to more fully understand this deeper picture.

Excellent podcast. Derek Is an amazing and knowledgeable storyteller, and loved the way Matt allowed himto speak uninterrupted and unscripted.

I don't have any problem with Christians believing in their religion. But when they allow their religious ideals to influence political affairs that affect everyone, then we have a problem.

And I already witnessed I believe was the HOLY SPIRIT descending down to me, After I was regenerated and saved, and right after I was baptised, I looked up, and saw what looked like a man, just his head clearing the top of the roof line, with a robe on. As this figure descended, I had an inner expression, to look down at the robe, and all the coils, which, I believe were only on the bottom of the robe, then as I was about to make the face out, I looked down and say a light blue illumination light all around my stomach, and part of my chest area, with a heavy feeling, when I went home, it started to go away eventually, Had that feeling the next sunday a little, never had it since. So I know of a surety he is real. Different people have different experiences, amen1
