Professional Shifting - Vocational 8LL, 9LL & 15-Speed

Interesting discussion...shed good insight on these LL applications. As an over-the-road driver, I've never driven a truck with deep reduction so it was nice to learn more about that function.

I still think the 15 speed is the best trans made love the reg ten on top then the 5 bottom.

I WAS IN SOMONE BACK YARD SND GROUND WAS KIND OF SOFT AND WAS SINKING IN THE GUY LOADED ME UP WITH DIRT AND I WENT TO DRIVE AWAY AND I HAD THE BLACK SELECTOR DOWN ON FIRST BUT I HAD THE SPLITTER BACK AND I WENT TO PULL OFF AND GAVE IT A LITTLE GAS AND THE DRIVE SHAFT DROPPED TO THE GROUND DID THIS HAPPEN BECAUSE I DIDNT HAVE THE SPLITTER IN DEEP REDUCTION OR WAS IT INEVITABLE WHEN I WOULD RELEAE THE clutch when I had it on low/1st it would just go a little then die and it would sink a little more each time

How are these transmissions 8LL have heard real bad stuff and break a lot ? Looking at dump truck with it in it Whats top hi-way speed ?

No you can’t operate it like a normal 10 speed because 4-5 9-10 are reversed, if you don’t know that be prepared to drop your transmission or over rev your engine 🤣

So, these transmissions have 10 forward gears... Why is it called an 8 speed trans?

So on an 8LL can you use deep reduction in all gears or is it just in low gear?

My question is: is the deep reduction gears on a 15 speed as low/reduced as the counterpart deep reduction gears on a 8ll or 9ll? Or maybe that just depends on the model?? And same question for a 13 speed

In other words, what are the gear ratios?
