What is not told is apparently the RAF refused that mission because among the dead was an unidentified SS officer who was in fact a british agent who managed after long to infiltrate the Gestapo. In the lining of his fake unorm was a list of members of a resistance network they along the Abwher tried to identify and catch.
They were almost all deported quickly, some were executed.

I'm pretty sure the "sergeant" is more correctly call a "flight sergeant". At least, that was my dad's rank once he became a qualified RAF pilot in WW2.

I tried to find Gestapo headquarters on Google Maps. I can see it from the satelllite view but the street view car apparently wasn't allowed to get close enough for the building to show up on street view. 😕bummer

I know the story of the baron Jean Michel and I know why he did what he did… he got chewed out for it, but they didn’t stop him from flying.
