Did you use the 49 mm filter? Is there a difference in the options? I had the same camera and lens as you, and i was looking to the a filter, but I wasn't sure if there was a specific one that goes better for that lens/camera

clever but, what close up filter? every one ive tried has had horrific quality degradation.

The rainbow lighting is due to using a cheap close up filter, this is chromatic aberration. I suggest getting Raynox 150 or 250 if on a budget and using flash and diffuser.
