Just a note STB410, when you are talking about the Aguila Sniper Subsonics for the Bersa Thunder and the Henry AR-7, the graphic in the corner of the screen is still saying "Aguila Supermaximum 30 gr JHP".
ОтветитьAny plans to test 38 special from short barrel revolvers?
ОтветитьI look forward to more test results!!!!!
ОтветитьThank you. Like it or not, you're the go to guy, regarding balistics now. Also, why only 2 rounds of the velocitors out of the bersa?
ОтветитьVery cool, looking forward to the 22 series!
ОтветитьWill the sniper subsonics reliably cycle a semi auto like a 10/22? I've been considering picking some up to try but would like to know before I waste the money.
ОтветитьThanks for your awesome videos!
Ответитьcould a cold/hot gun/bore be the result of some of the incosistent shot depths?
On average, is it a warm or cold bore that has more power/depth/expantion?
Really good tests. One request - CCI Stingers to see how they compete against the super fast Supermaxes, AND also Aguila Interceptors. They compete with the Velocitors, are the same weight, but typically average about 100fps faster in tests, reaching mid 1400's, and the deepest penetration and biggest expansion of 0.40 on average.
ОтветитьI have a few suggestions if you are interested....
1. Aguila Interceptor 40 Grain JHP, this is a 40 Grain bullet chronographed at 1470 ft/s form a rifle, I currently have these loaded in my Sig Mosquito at home for backup defense.
2. Remington Yellow Jacket 33 Grain Truncated Cone Hollow Point bullet chronographed at 1500 ft/s from a rifle, these are in my secondary mag for my Sig Mosquito.
3. Remington Golden Bullet 36 Grain JHP bullet chronographed at 1280 ft/s from a rifle, I currently have these loaded in my Colt AR22.
4. CCI Stinger 32 Grain JHP bullet chronographed at 1640 ft/s from a rifle, these can be difficult to get right now, but supposedly these are the best bullets in .22LR
Another very informative and enjoyable video from you! Earlier tonight, I went to the local range and ran the Augila SSS and Super Maximum solids through my NAA mini revolver. At first the Super Maximum's were the more accurate but after firing several SSS rounds, I'm guessing fouling in the bore changed that drastically. I went from hitting the target 3-5 times per cylinder at 25 yds to 0 to 2 rounds with the Super Maximums. Interestingly enough, I could consistently hit the target with all 5 rounds using the 60 grain SSS rounds from 25 yds. I have heard the SSS loads are bad about key holing in this gun but noticed little or no manifestations of this in my particular gun.
Your video has cleared up one mystery for me. I always wondered why some of the Aguila Super Maximum's left a .32 to .38 caliber hole in the targets from my mini revolver. The deformation of the bullet base (not the point) is the reason.
Thanks again for a great video and the work that went into it!
This is going to be a great series. Thanks.
ОтветитьThere should be a all copper 22 lr for hunting, these lead bullets fragment too much.
Ответитьexcellent video
Ответитьthe super maximum in hollow point sucks try the solid point they are really nasty buggers
ОтветитьWonder how they would do from my '37 Winchester model 67 27" barrel?
Ответитьyou try to fit too much info. into too small a time segment. confused and rushed, take your time and mine. your on a good start of presenting needed info. don't try to fit so many rounds, from so many firearms into one block of gel.
ОтветитьThe supermaximum solids expand and penetrate well from a rifle my old mod60 22" barrel id say they outperform stingers but I do agree on the velocitors they r da bomb although not my choice for self defence I also like yellow jackets from that gun the things expand massively and the base brakes off and keeps penetrating for small game they are devastating
ОтветитьReally interesting
ОтветитьFor Self defense in 22LR, the best are the SSS. Because of the tumbling-penetration ratio.
ОтветитьIf I were to carry a .22 for protection, the Velocitors would be a good choice for my Ruger SR22, Thanks for the great test.
ОтветитьI would still love to see a .410 shotgun ammo quest series. Keep up the good work man .
ОтветитьI would also like to see a test involving the Ruger MK3 standard with a 6-inch barrel.
ОтветитьThere is nothing like the Aguila SSS.
Best 22LR round for self defense up to 20 yards. Simply horrific for the assailant to get shot with just one SSS
so many innuendo opportunities
ОтветитьStingers are the highest velocity 22lr on the market. any chance you'll be testing those?
Ответитьreally excellent test that I haven't seen done by anyone!
I have my Ruger 22/45 loaded with velocities..I rely upon my 9mm's for self defense!
aguila interceptor, test it!
ОтветитьI have been a huge fan for years yet I have never seen this video. I am big on 22lr in revolvers (mainly the LCR) for defensive for people who don't like or can't take recoil. This video is a great data point. With Remington Vipers &Yellow jackets I have found both will go through 4 layers of denim and over 13" ballistics gel our of a LCR but neither will expand or barely deform. By the way I can't find either of those rounds any more so now I am looking at the new Winchester Hyper speed that is 40gr and 1435 fps very similar to Velocitor but only about $9.50 for a box of 100.
ОтветитьI am glad that the ammo that I always thought would be the best 22lr defensive load turned out the winner. Velocitors for the win!
ОтветитьCan you do tests with .32 acp and .25 acp?
Both got around 11-12” penetration with XTP bullets in other people’s tests, would love to see your results though...
As always, a complete and helpful evaluation. Thanks!
ОтветитьAs always, a complete and helpful evaluation. Thanks!
Ответитьgreat review👍 always use velocitors in my 22 colt gold cup, really brings it to life...
ОтветитьWhat I really wanted to see is velocity of each round from the different guns!
ОтветитьAny chance of .22 wmr test. I've been thinking about getting the CMR from Keltec.
ОтветитьI would be interested in seeing how the Super Max solids would do
ОтветитьI would love to see CCI Test on Velocitor vs Stinger vs Mini-Mag
ОтветитьSuper excellent presentation 👍
ОтветитьThanks for the video. Until now I thought HP would penetrate less than the RN version. Now - when I know someone is limited to .22 cal handgun I can tell them the Velocitor HP is an acceptable round.
ОтветитьCan you shooting 22 lr of .17 hmr rifle???
ОтветитьWhen you say that penetration of 6”-7” is not much, do you realize that human heart is only about 4” behind the breast plate? The slowest .22 round at self defense distance will stop and kill just as sure as the bigger calibre bullet, if the shot is placed in the proper vital area. And there are at least 4 vital areas in front of the body, the most vital and most accessible being the front cortex part of the brain, which is right behind the forehead.
The FBI standard requirement of penetration on another hand comes from the need for the bullet to have enough energy/speed to be able to shoot through a car door, or a car window, or an apartment door, and still have enough energy to do enough lethal damage to the perpetrator behind that cover.
You mention this is the first test of many but I can’t find anymore? I saw your great comprehensive test on the NAA 1-1/8” 22 but was hoping you’d have the 3.5” and 16” barrel because that’s much more common. IMO. Hope to see more in .22LR! Thanks!
ОтветитьMini mag round nose for penetration
ОтветитьI’ve got an AR-7 also, & an S&W pistol with a 5.5” barrel that I use with both the Winchester & CCI Velocitor rounds. The Winchester’s have a much deeper hollow point, which I suspect is responsible for their fragmentation at higher velocities.
Ballistic gel has its points, but for self defense testing it lacks anything to simulate the ribs that you would hit in a vitals shot. Bullets, especially non-jacketed like .22, behave much differently once they hit bone.
The SSS difference between the 3.5 barrel pistol and the 16 inch barrel rifle were .75 inch penetration on the low end and .50 on the high end.....Virtually a wash, even accounting for the over 100 fps difference, the pistol makes as much sense in power, however, the rifle is obviously the better hitting machine. Incredibly it was a similar case with the Velocitors.
However the advantage of the rifle's extra fps? Full bullet expansion which means more tissue damage.
you don't have a fast enough twist in any of your barrels to properly stabilize the Aguila sub-sonic 60gr. need a 1:9" or so. Probably why they are ending up backwards in the gel.
ОтветитьThanks
